Heard this on The Simpsons last night, now it's stuck in my head. Not a bad tune, to be stuck on ones head, though.

"Vocalist Elmer Feldkamp.... who besides providing vocals for recordings by the bands of Bert Lown, Roger Wolfe Kahn, and Freddy Martin, was also highly regarded as a saxophone and clarinet player with those orchestras and even got to front his own outfit for a time and star on radio. Despite his popularity in the late 1920s and all through the '30s, his career was tragically cut short by his death in 1938, and today he remains an extremely obscure figure whose recordings have not been reissued on CD, except for a few of the sides he cut as a sideman and band vocalist."

Gorgeous voice....singing here with Freddy Martin Orch. 1934

Pardon my rubbish translation.

In a world of joy
Between the smoke
And glasses of champagne
There's an unhappy soul
Hiding behind her tears
Drawn by her grief
My hankerchief dried her tears
As she said 'I'm sick,'
'Suffering and crying for my love.'

She turned to me
Caressing her pain
Between her sobs
She said in a low voice
'A man betrayed me'
I said forget the past
Forget get all of yesterday
Don't shed a tear if he hasn't cried
Nor thought of your pain

There was something in her eyes
That left no doubt
Of shattered illusions,
Hatred and a desire for revenge
She then said her life of passion
Became one of grief
She recalled the happy times
And her honor

Poor kid, her tragedy
Struck my soul
That I felt powerless
When I saw her locket
And saw the ba***rd's face in it
Poor kid, what sadness I saw
Made me suffer for it
As her painted lips
Smiled for me
