Have a wonderful trip, Hads! I've always wanted to see South America. A friend of mine lives in Santiago, Chile.

Who else was in that show? There was plenty of 1957 that I would have liked to see back then.

At the first Grammy Awards of 1959, Salli Terri was nominated for Best Classical Vocal Performance. The album, "''Duets with the Spanish Guitar'', " also featuring guitarist Laurindo Almeida and flutist Martin Ruderman won the Grammy for Best Classical Engineered Recording. On this 1958 Recording produced by Robert E. Myers, referred to by many as a masterpiece, Ms. Terri sang the aria from Heitor Villa-Lobos composition, "''Bachianas Brasileiras No.5''" that the composer declared as the best recorded version of his work. The album, with additions from later recordings and re-named "Duets with Spanish Guitar" was re-released in 1990 on a CD in the USA, Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, and in France and still continues to sell well.

A few reviews:

Antonio Gandia (Ocean, NJ USA) - Superb, lush and enchanting!!!
It is very hard for me to be objective when reviewing this CD. I'm in the same situation as one other reviewer said, my father used to play this record frequently when I was growing up. Of course, as a little kid, you will not always make a note of such things, and may not even care about it. I had not listened to this record since the mid eighties (when our last turntable broke and we made the transition to CD's). As soon as I started listening to it I was taken back to that time of my life, and all of these memories which I did not knew I had came back to me. This record had been part of my life's "soundtrack". It would be easy for me to be over-analytical, since I happen to have a degree in music, but I would not dare to do so. The music is pure, absolutely beautiful. If anything, even though back when it was recorded it won awards for its sound quality, nowadays we have been spoiled with modern sound recording quality. You can certainly hear that the recording was not made recently, but it is the performances that count, and these will always sound as fresh and magnificent as the day they were first captured on tape. I will have to get a copy for my dad!

Oliver Ward (rocky hill, ct United States) - MASTERPIECE
First heard "duets" in November 1965 at my friend Lisa's dinner party in Washington, D.C. i remember being taken to a place i had never been before. while listening to this haunting music we were looking at pictures in a book called "The Family of Man". I have never tired of listening to this music. The guitar artistry of Laurindo Almeida is breathtaking. Salli Terri's crystal clear vocals and Martin Ruderman's fluid flute playing are enchantment personified. "Duets with the Spanish Guitar" is a bona fide masterpiece!!
Macwerk: Jeg har iøvrigt selv "The Family of Man", som er en bog med billeder fra en af verdens mest fantastiske fotoudstillinger!

Ellen Lambert (Outback, UT USA) - Voice of Heaven
I heard this CD about 3 years ago, I'd never heard of Salli Terri or Laurindo Almeida until then, but I was simply overcome by the clarity and sheer beauty of Salli Terri's voice. I made my friend play the CD every time I paid him visit, and have been on the hunt for a copy of my own since then. Salli died a couple of years ago, but she still, to me, has the most wonderful voice I've ever heard. Coupled with Almeida's artful mastery, this is truly a work of art.

Basil J. Whiting - A Romantic Classic
I first heard this as a 33rpm record in a Monterey, CA, coffeehouse in 1960 before proposing to my wife. I gave it to her as a weddding present. We wore it out playing it and I now, finally, found the CD. This is a hauntingly beautiful set of duets between guitar and voice and guitar and flute. Sally Teri is the voice as pure as the flute. You will find the themes running through your mind for days after hearing it. This is an all-time classic. Give it to your best lovers and friends.

If you want to talk guitar---you start with the master:]

Thanks for sharing JP !
I don't know squat about good guitar, but I stumbled
on this & it might not be Segovia...but I like it !
This piece was a favorite of my father. His birthday was yesterday,
I post it here in his memory.

I know Segovia through my father as you know guitar through yours.I kind of posted that for my father as his birthday was February 11[SUP]th[/SUP].He would be 85 this year. My father played the guitar so he had an appreciation for what it took to play like Segovia.

You can appreciate it somewhat through this video as it shows process but it is very long.:p
