Yellow Dog Blues, Crying Sam Collins, 1927, for Gennett Records. "Goin' where that Southern cross the Yellow Dog." Probably something like the blues W.C. Handy experienced in 1903 at the train station in Tutwiler, Mississippi.

Red Steagall -- Dodge City

We left San Antonio in April '83
Trailing a herd to the railhead
My brother and Bob and me
Except for dust and Comanches
And nesters pushing plows
All I seen since the day we left
Was the south end of those cows

But there was lights in the distance
I thought that I heard music play
The voices of fallen angels get closer every day
Well, a hunter come by in a wagon
He looked part Cherokee
I said, 'What's that ahead of us, pardner?'
This is what he said to me:

Yonder's Dodge City, Queen of the Cowtowns
Running a wide open game
Don't try to brand her, she's too wild to handle
Too tough by far for you to tame

I drank whiskey in the Long Branch
And I got in a poker game
Danced with some fancy ladies
I don't recall by name
Woke up in jail next morning
This blue lump on my head
And an old tin star named Wyatt Earp
Unlocked the cell and said:

This here's Dodge City, Queen of the Cowtowns
Running a wide open game
Don't try to brand her, she's too wild to handle
Too tough by far for you to tame

Got back my guns and saddle
I wound up in Fort Worth
Throwed in with Billy Ray Walker
A pushing another herd north
He said, 'What's that ahead of us, pardner?'
I said, 'Billy, if you care to know'
'It's a slice of cowboy heaven'
'When you get there, take it slow'

Dear God, thank you for helping me get and play the melodeon and harmonica. I am extremely grateful for these gifts! Amen.

In today's video I play Korobeiniki (Коробейники) which is also known as the Tetris Song. It is a Russian folk tune. I play it on my Accordiola Mundinger Diaton III Grand Luxe club accordion. :D

Enjoy! :D
