A couple of days ago Cathy and Elliot Lewis On Stage, "The String Bow Tie," featuring Sheldon Leonard as, what else, a gangster.
Then, Vic 'n' Sade, "Ice Cream and Salted Peanuts at Midnight," and "Hank's Two Hundred Dollar Wardrobe." Nothing tops Paul Rhymer's skill in writing dialogue that has impeccable timing and rhythm. All done without sound effects, too. (later shows had them, but the first ones are the best.)*

*In my opinion, that is.

I'm in a Larry Clinton mood today... Impossible not to be a huge fan of this orch!

They might have been the straightest down-the-middle of all the swing bands. Nicely crisp and polished and never an extra note or gimmick in the arranging - Larry was known for his economy. I especially like his use of the clarinet section. And of course few bands had a singer as well-matched to them as Bea Wain. She was musicianly and sounded like a real person, not a fake personality.

We're back together, dear
Where we first met
We've been apart far too long
We're back together, dear
Kissing and yet,
Sweetheart, there's something wrong

I see the same old moon
The same old June
But not the same old you
The same old place
The same embrace
But not the thrill I knew
You love someone,
Who can it be?
Please tell me, hon, because I can see

That it's the same old moon
The same old June
But not the same old you
