78s to grate a bar of laundry soap into a Miracle Whip jar by --

First up, it's Ben Bernie and All The Lads in 1933, and their big gridiron hit "You've Gotta Be A Football Hero." Neil Buckley takes the first chorus, and hands off to the Ol' Maestro hisself for the second.

Next up, following a commercial for Thayer's Slippery Elm Throat Lozenges, it's Freddy Martin and his Orchestra in 1934, and Elmer Feldkamp on the vocal for "There's A Little Picture Playhouse In My Heart." Which reminds me of all the things I gotta do at work tonight.

Funny thing, the IT guy here at my work found one of them Philco 80s/90s reproduction cathedrals with the ports in the back for a tape deck... the IT guy found this radio in the warehouse with the other recyclables, he saved it and asked if I wanted it and that he'd hook it up to my PC! So, he got a speaker connection and hooked it up to my desk top PC!

I'm listening to Radio Dismuke right now! How fun is that?

Gotta love Dismuke, the best from '25 to '35!

78s to try and get up the nerve to call the endodontist by --

Starting off with an oddball hit from 1934, with Borah Minnevitch and his Harmonica Rascals squealing out "Chinatown My Chinatown." One of the earliest Decca releases, it was no doubt inspiration for thousands of desperate harmonicists trying to get on Major Bowes' Amateur Hour.

Next, following a commercial for Kirkman's Soap Flakes with Granulated Suds-Booster Action, it's Benny Goodman and his Orchestra in 1938, with Martha Tilton on the vocal for "I've Got A Date With A Dream." Better that than a date with the endodontist.

Hi Lizzie,

"Chinatown My Chinatown" is one of my favourite songs!

I am listening to...

Christopher Gunning - Theme to the TV series 'Poirot' (starring David Suchet).

Poor Lizzie - I sympathise! I wish you well at your appointment and hope it's over quickly.

78s to block out the racket being made by the fuel oil delivery man by --

Starting off today with Sol Hopii and his Novelty Quartet in 1934, and "My Little Grass Shack In Keleakakua, Hawaii." Palm trees, hula skirts, ukuleles, and the whole bit. And it's 50 degrees -- in my kitchen.

Next up, this seems to be the day for goofy novelty records, as Slim Galliard and Slam Stewart strut up to the turntable to give out with their big 1937 hit, "Flat Foot Floogie." With a floy floy, flo doy, flo doy no less.
