What are New Yorkers wearing...

I'm curious. The weather in NYC has been crappy. I have been wearing my light felt, no liner Borsalino. I see, though, that even with the temperature not being too high--and raining on and off-- some people are using Panamas as the "protocol" of the season suggests. I don't follow it by any means but, I must confess, I've been feeling a little weird with most people wearing panamas and there I am, silly me, wearing felt. Am I the only one? New Yorkers, what say you?

Agree. ^^

My current hat rotation includes felt, straw, and wool caps. The hat is chosen on the weather, mood, and an attempt to coordinate with my daily work clothes.

I wore my Panama once this week and it got wet and now it looks a little bedgraggled. I'm hoping a warm iron can brighten it up. Today I'm back to felt. Last Sunday I wore my boater! And I may again this Sunday!
But you're right, it's been tough to decide this week.

I'm carrying a B!Wear cap that matches my Wested Raiders jacket (it's perfect weather for this jacket!)... but I haven't had occasion to actually wear the cap. My isolated house-to-car and car-to-job (and vice versa), etc., moments have all coincided with only slight drizzle.

This is some amazingly awful weather for June in NY, isn't it?!?

I have one of Art's lightweight hats and I don't ever seem to wear it in the winter but it stays in the rotation all summer long. If there is a hint of rain I go with the felt instead of the straw. Actually my lightweight is cooler than either of my Panamas.

I've been alternating between my Sunbody (which I'm still not quite sold on) and my felts, depending on how hot it's been. The felt works for me if the high's projected to be below 75.

I've got a Milan straw on the way from Miller Hats, but until it dries up, I won't risk wearing it.

The only felt that stays in my rotation during the summer is my VS featherweight, but even that gets too warm on the hottest, cloudless summer days of NM. I definitely NEVER wear my straws out in the rain if I can avoid it, however, and depending, I will either choose my VS, or a cloth cap.

Though not a New Yorker by birth, and certainly not by temperament, I do live in the same vicinity, under the same weather gods. Having exactly 0 lightweight felts in service at the moment, I have swallowed hard and put the ballcaps* back into the rotation.

*soft-top Blue Marlin minor-league repops; I collected a dozen or so back when my hat-lust was well sublimated.

Ive been wearing felts, particularly my Fed IV (surprise!) On the couple of hot days we had a week or so ago, I wore straws.

And yes, this has been the most dismal May/June that I can recall.

Travelling there for 4th of July and the week after. I have been trying to decide which hats to bring, reading this thread is creating quite a conundrum for me. I can wear one on the plane and carry one. BUT WHICH ONES? or perhaps I can convince the wife that I should just purchase while we are there!

Not just where you are but also on our side of the Atlantic. Last weekend I was cold wearing a greatcoat and gloves, last time I had to wear those was March. I see people in shorts and T-shirts all the time but that doesn't stop me wearing my trench coat if I think the weather calls for it. Likewise I'd wear a felt hat even if everyone else wore straw, although that has got something to do with the fact that I own no straws.

Well, I do have one hat that is made of LiteStraw. It claims to be water-resistant. I could probably get away with an umbrella and that LiteStraw.[huh]
