What a Deal

I must be living right, or something.

I won the following auction on eBay, and honestly just wanted the airplane pin. For the meager sum of $2.99 it was mine. The photos in the add looked very sad.

The hat arrived today, and much to my delight, this is it. A light brush is all I have done to it. The pics I took do not do the hat justice. The shimmer off of the "Kitten Finish" seems to create a glow sort of. Anyway what do you think? The "Resistol 737 Krushable 3X Beaver" 3rd hat down. Anyone want to take a shot at dating the hat? JP looking for your input on this one, a add if you have it would be great.

I would guess (it's only a guess, mind you) that your new/old hat is a little newer than the seller's 1950s estimate, seeing how it's called a 737 and the sweatband has embossed on it an outline of what looks a lot like a Boeing 737 (a twin jet), which began production in 1968, I believe it was. (Boeing still makes the 737, by the way. The 5,000th example rolled off the Renton plant's production line just a few days ago. The 737 is the best-selling large commercial airliner in history, and demand for the updated versions of it remains strong.) The style of the "737" stamped on that sweatband also quite resembles the style used by the Boeing Co.
Great deal. I like to see those dirty, misshapen old lids find an owner who treats 'em right. I bet we'll go a long, long time until we see another Resistol 737. Now watch somebody prove me wrong.

Had my eye on that lid... it kind of fits into an airplane theme that's so easy to fall into... I contacted the seller and they quoted me a size that was too small for me. Lucky you! Can you imagine if we both wanted it. The price might've hit $10... :cheers1:
I agree it's probably not that old, but who cares, If it fits your style and you like it Wear it Proudly !!
I recently spent several green backs more than you on a Resistol 880 Kitty Finish...yep, it kind of fits the airplane theme so I went for it. Though it ain't that old I have been seen wearing it the last couple days.

Enjoy it, Great deal at twice the price !!

Hey, have you seen the Champ Wisperjet that was lurking on ebay?
For those Stingy Brim fanciers, it's kind of cool.

I am like you guessing it is 60's vintage. It does have the Bryer Rolnick on the liner and that ended so I am told in 1968. I was shocked at just what good shape the hat is in. The photo on the eBay listing made it look bad. I had thoughts of using the pin on my Statoliner. Never did I think the hat would be in such good shape.

Re: hats4me... 737

I am kind of partial to Resistol hats, so they tend to catch my attention. As for a bidding war, I rarely get involved in those. I make a descision on what something is worth and set a limit based on value. I don't start out bidding the limit mind you, but the limit is there. The price of hats on eBay is outragious right now, but like all things it will correct itself. I have plenty of time. A great warior will say pick the battles you can win, and you will win the war. I have more than enough nice hats to cover my head, so there is no rush, when I find the right hat at the right price I will buy. Auctions tend to consume people. A few years back, I wanted a new Ping golf bag. I purchased one at a local pro=shop for 150.00(suggested retail), a few weeks later I saw the exact same bag sell on eBay for 200.00 + shipping and it was used. Some poor sap, won the auction, but lost the war. Were bragging rights for the auction worth 70.00? I hope they were to him.
