Haha! No ... you can keep Hoppy. I'd be happy to send the Lion to you now for a hat to be named later. (You will probably outlive me, but if you want to put a piece of tape with my name on it in that Valentine I wouldn't be opposed...) ;)
Ha ha....
Bob i don’t think i have hardly anything in 71/2. I’ll look but not sure. Maybe a Shady Oaks idk. You hang on to the Lion. Maybe you can turn a deal with someone who does have the right size.
Thanks for thinkin of me.

You may be right on this one Jack. I compared it to the three old ones that came with "The Alamo" hat and they are rough feeling compared to this -- plus the old ones are shedding a bit. I still dig the slide and overall look. Not bad for a $14 hat.
It takes a minimum of 10 individual horsehairs to make up one strand. You buy horsehair by color in bundles by weight starting at 1/4lb. To make a strand you put together 10 hairs alternating the hair bulbs from one end to the other, then tie off both ends. It can take hundreds of strands by color depending on the project. I have a braided belt that probably took a thousand strands or more. So you can see how labor intensive it is.

Giving this thread the first peek at my latest conversion project. I got this 10X Thoroughbred in a trade. I'm converting it into a Costner'esque Longhair Open Range style Western with a Montana Pinch. I'll have more details later in the conversion corral after it's dried out and completed. It's still wet from where I reshaped the brim and creased the crown....

It was originally from here (probably the Greenfield store), but has been living in Saginaw, Michigan for years.

That’s a fantastic thoroughbred! I have a little fedora that has the same stamp in the same font on the sweatband

Here are two of my favorites. The first is an Akubra Cattleman pinched and rolled in a 1950's style commonly seen in old westerns. I have three of these in different colors. It's my favorite western style though it is more classic Hollywood than true West. Roy Rogers wore a similar style as did William Holden in the Wild Bunch and Clint Eastwood on Rawhide. The second one is an Akubra Bobby completely reworked into more of a 1920's style. This look was inspired by some old Tom Mix serials. Sadly, this hat has been sold. I love western hats because there's so much latitude for making it your own. The style is really wide open in terms of size, crease, color, brim shape, and even the band.

I tell you what, those are some good hat styles. I like the top one best of all.
