Been working on a garage sale hat that cost $5
It is a Texas Hatters Chisholm 1. It had glue all around where a hat band had been as well as glue on the brim
Brim had been cut also. After spending hours flaking glue off, I found discoloration to the felt. I pounced the brim and cleaned up the cut brim. The tall crown and short brim looked out of proportion, so I put a telescope crease on it. Not a style I normally wear but I may actually wear this one.

Totally the look I was aiming for with mine. The shape, anyway. I feel like I could probably rock the purple hat if I had the matching suit, but I'm not sure it would be the ticket with just blue jeans.

I was digging around in my closet last night and I ran across this 3X Stetson that I had forgotten about.

Something out of the 70s or 80s I suspect. 5 3/4" at the front pinch in the photos, I pushed the front out a minute ago and now it's an even 6". 3 3/4" brim front and back, 4" sides.

Greg -- Love that Dorer and the crease you put in it.

I gave $12 for this older Stetson 3X along with a Rockmount Ranchwear woolly. They arrived today.

Any thoughts on the age of the Stetson? Early 1950s? Later?

Very early '50s is a good guess, given the red and white and the orange and white manufacturer's labels. I think it was some time after 1953, (there was mention of this in another thread somewhere), that all hat companies went with a generic long white manufacture's label. My Stetson Premier has those same labels and it's from the very late '40s. Brad Bowers would be the guy to ask for confirmation.

Here is my gray 4x stetson. I'm undecided on it. I thought it was a bit unusual with the Boeing gray color and the Boeing name on the sweat. Most stampede models seem to be acorn, palomino, or occasionally black or chocolate. I usually try to keep my hats fairly original but I am not crazy about the hat band. May change to leather or horse hair and recrease. What do loungers think, original or change?

Best to just send that hat to me and not worry your beard over it. That Gray is my color, and I would be more than happy to keep it original for you. [emoji6] The hat is nice, but the hat band does look out of place. I have often wondered what hat makers were thinking when they put certain hat bands on. I know it is subjective to individual taste, but sometimes one has to stop and scratch the head over it.

The gray color is the reason I bought it. I remember in the 70s thinking those bands were pretty cool. How time changes perspective!

Personally I have no problem in updating a hat or making it my own in any way. Those late 1970's & early 1980's hatbands that came after the Urban Cowboy feathers era are all terrible. I've often wondered if they were trying to attract hippies to wearing cowboy hats with those macrame hatbands.
