I am kicking around getting a Stetson 6X Carson and making it up like Timothy Olyphant's "Justified" hat. But I am sort of wondering if I should just go with a repro, though.

These guys say they make a lot of the actor's hats and have their own "Justified" hat:

And these guys say they make a copy, too:
http://www.knudsenhats.com/justified.html

Or should I get a proper Stetson 6X Carson and just make it out as the TV hat?

What would you do?

I really never payed attention how different is the cattleman crease from raylan's hat from another cattleman crease hats. I'm not very fond of that crease and I think the hat RG wears have a 3" brim so I'm not interested in having one.
I did saw the series but only to see if he ever lost it or it ever got damaged (and because of the story).

I think Baron Hats wouldn't be an option if you want a "TV hat", because has they state, it's not a "TV hat", it's a hat inspired by THE "TV hat". The only resemblance I see is the cattleman crease and the hat color.

Knudsen Hats RG's hat looks more the TV hat and they even sell only the hatband if you want to make your own.

So I would consider Knudsen or making my own if I could get my hands on a Stetson 6x Carson for cheap (in ebay, you probably can get one for less than $100).

Knudsen will be better value, and a truer form to the show. Plus they tend to stock justified hats for quick ship if I remember correctly.

I had it in my mind as a shallow mini Gus. I really gotta check out some of those turn of the century lids you're referring to!

By the way, fedoracentric,
I know Mike Moore at buckaroo hatters makes Justified hats too, and would recommend his work without hesitation. Plus he's a great guy with very reasonable prices. I'd give him a shout.

I found a 4X Carson at Paris Hatters & hatband from Garland Outlet store.
Their website still list it = http://www.parishatters.com/western-beaver-felts.html

I trimmed the brim down some. Dave at the Garland Outlet said he trimmed the one the show used...

It could have been. Here are a couple more of Truman's hats. Looks like he quickly cattlemaned these too or at least he attempted to on the Panama.

Is that not General MacArthur in the picture with Truman?

Opps! A double post! lol!

Hardest thing was making the leather hatband, we studied the hatband for several weeks until we felt we had it right, I have a full set of the inward tapered blocks from 6 3/4" to a size 8"
