Nevertheless, to cover my bets I'm putting all my
Borsalinos in the fireplace tonight. Heck, anything that
isn't a Stetson.

Please post photos of the process. You could take it a step further and try the same with ALL products in your home, but burn your camera last. I'm also guessing you would find yourself sleeping with nothing covering you BUT a Stetson.

Don't worry - anti-American is still alive and well.

Getting back to the topic... I really like what you did with that
Beaver Brand hat, <<Pablo>>. You didn't braid that horsehair yourself,
did you? Like the buckle, too.

Jonbuilder- that hat is nice, but not super special. I wouldn't lay down
big bucks for it. Looks like a lot of surface mothing and that buckle/belt
doesn't look too period. Look around for Stetson 3X cowboy hats (here
for examples and on eBay to buy) and you should find something nicer
in the two figure price range. Nice glans on that odd hat block, though...

No Feltfan, I didn't braid that headband and I couldn't imagine sneaking up to some horse in a field and cutting off its tail... In fact, I purchased it from a -in my view- very good internet shop http://appaloosadurango.com/hat_bands.html
together with a western style belt and another hatband.

The buckle belongs to the overlying leather hatband, not really anything fancy at all, in fact, a cheapo item being put to better use.

This hat belonged to my Grandpa, Deb Copenhaver bought for him at the Houston Rodeo, in 1951.

My Grandma gave it to me and I used to wear it competing at rodeos.

It says Beaver on the inside, it feels amazing but is stiff as h..., my brother sent it off to be cleaned and the cleaners kept the box. I remember it having a price of 150 written on the box.

7X Beaver Stetson

Based on Dinerman's thread on dating Stetsons by the size tag and some other examples of the sweatband I have seen, I believe this is an early 1960's model. The felt is stiff as in most western hats, but dense and buttery to the touch.

I was just down at Lammles (western shop) and they have some 6X Stetsons on sale for $160(Canadian). For thoes in the know, is this a good hat or should I be looking at another Akubra for that kind of price?
