In 1974 a $75 western hat was near the top of the price range.
Ryon's is still at that same location on North Main in Ft Worth.
I believe it is Luskey/Ryon's now. There is another Ryon's up the street, Sean Ryon's but that is a separate store owned by one of the Ryon family descendants.

Thanks for all the info suitedcboy, I guess at this price point the hat was top quality and beyond you were paying for jewelry and cases or exotic fur.

Looks like that one is cleaning up nicely, Victor. Cool lid. :eusa_clap

FWIW, here's a Stetson ad from 1955 showing that a 3X Boss of the Plains with a 3 1/2" brim went for $20:

From Mexico. 3-1/4" bound edge brim. Crown has crescent moon ventilation piercings and a rectangular crease and is 4-3/4" high. Fairly light and soft, not a stiff brim.

Wish I had several of these hat blocks, those SASS shooters are dying for some of these styles, I made two like this from some home made blocks, loked ok, but would love to find some of the real deals.

Fine looking hat!!!!!

Looks like a Hoss Cartwright meets Pancho Villa meets Milburn Drysdale hat.
A bit of tall open crown western plus a bit of sombrero and a bit of homburg.

You have to have THICK skin to wear that a lot of places.

Looks like it had some decoration about 3/4 of the way
up the cone. Another ribbon perhaps. Or a photoshop mark...

Looks real to me. I wonder if one could add a few dents...

Suitedcboy...here's a link to Hat Store images...if you have a chance...maybe you can snap a few images of the western hat store and add them to the thread.
