well, I have similar hat by stetson, in a, more or less, amish style but with a telescope crown ( I envy your pencil curl brim!).

Maybe someone has an idea of which model this is? I'd like to hear it if someone recognises it

I have been able (with the help a Sylvester Maria, the Hatter) to modify this hat and add a pencil curl to the brim. This has greatly helped to hold the brim flat, I am still looking for a hint about identifying which exact model this is (there is no re-order label inside!)

1998 Butch Dorer Original Pure Beaver. 4 inch brim, 6 inch open crown. It was bought/ordered through Flanigan's Cowboy Stuff. The small Dorer stamp on the sweatband is the only obvious thing identifying it as a Dorer hat. I was told it cost in the range of $1100 in 1998.

I think I read some discussion or wondering on the Lounge about where Butch Dorer got his hat blanks, etc. According to a 2008 article online in a Texas magazine or paper, by that time in his career, Butch spent a lot of time dealing directly with beaver pelt trappers or the first people who bought from the trappers. He had set up a network of such people around the world, and apparently had hand-picked those people for the quality of pelts. If this was the case, I assume Butch must have been sending these pelts to some manufacturer to have hat blanks made to his own specifications. And that being the case, he wasn't using any hat blanks that were available to any other purchaser. Obviously, I cannot opine on the veracity of anything in that article.

Thanks for the best wishes and sorry for the double post ! Not belated at all, today is the actual date, I decided to celebrate a bit early have the party on a weekend.

It was indeed a great party, I'm so lucky to have been able to reunite friends and family from different places I've lived and worked and who have gotten to know each other over the years. Our cover band hadn't played together since over 5 years and it was pure joy to get up on stage again and kick out the jams.

Happy belated birthday - hope it was a great one!
