Just a shame it’s a couple sizes too small.

This Resistol belonged to my sister-in-law’s father who passed away when she was just a few years old. He wore it in his bull riding days but it has mostly spent the last 40+ years collecting dust… and lots of it. She tasked me with a bit of a clean up job.. but keep it true to the shape he left it. It took an extreme brushing…. Hat sponge scrubbing.. and a real good steaming…. But I am real happy with the results. Now she just needs to add the hat band of her choosing and it is ready for the wall…. Or my brother in law’s head… whoever wins that argument. Maybe both

Now ready for its reveal….

the light spots are just sunshine filtering through the leaves… the felt looks black as night now.

Nice job, Joe. Definitely a hat that deserves to be worn and not just hung on a wall.

I've always wondered if Jack Daniel's hat is in a museum somewhere, if it still survives? What brand is it & what are the specs & dimensions? This is about the only real pic you can find of this hat.

Most of the rest are woodcuts,

or artist renderings, & sometimes printed in reverse.

I might be able to get the brim correct but the blocking is different.

Thanks Steve. There won't be any answers coming but I've always admired the hat. And I love all the detail given to his dress in the woodcut. I've always figured the pic was probably taken when he was 35-40 yrs old, which would make the time frame 1885-1890, if accurate. He only lived to be 61 & died in 1911.

Thanks! It’s a nice hat, but it’s a couple sizes too small for me so it will be put on the block soon.

As for the crease, I think of a four sided crease ending in a peak when I think of a Montana crease. To me, this hat has more of a Gus crease. Then again, the same creases have lots of different names and sometimes the nuances between them aren’t very meaningful.

I love that hat. I have a White Stetson which comes close, I think, I'll have to pull it out and see. I really wish I could grow a mustache like that!

I wish I knew the dimensions. I have an O'Farrell Glenn Family era 50X that would probably be close too. If I could only find where it's at.

A couple of the wealthy families here put their civic responsibilities & money into public art, museums & libraries.

Then we have the stained Black Angel in a local cemetery dating back to the 1850's.
