Was in the local farm supply store last week. First break in our 100+ temps in a month or so. It was cool, in the '80s, over cast, and the first time I had wore a felt in months. Cashier commented on my hat. I thanked him. Then he added I likely wouldn't be wearing it the rest of the week.

11:30 am, 62F now, 43% humidity and a 5 mph wind. Smokey over cast. Still in a beaver, silver belly. And enjoying every minute of it. Way things go, it may not last long! But for now no heat and few flies. Odd for August here. As was 100+ in June and July.

Great looking hat Jack. I love the kettle curl.

This No. 1 has been a lot of fun to play with. Takes a dry crease as well as any 7X CB of mine, well, maybe not the Canadian but it pops in and out of an OC easily. My thoughts are to leave it OC but I’m enjoying trying different creases. HJ sent me a Miller Stockman catalog listing for a Tommy Grimes and I really like the crease. Put a quick dry one in for a look.

I was able to save this '50s era (?) 3X Stetson Beaver Quality Western. The hat was a heavily soiled and sweat stained crushed up mess. The Lounger who gave it to me said it had a story to tell. I reblocked it and clean it up just enough to get the nasty off of it, being careful to preserve the hat's story. I reused everything that came with it. Although faded and looking worn. The felt on this is still very nice.

I like a open crown, odd as it may sound, simply because it fits my weird shaped head better. Mind you I have had some time to come to that conclusion

Been a long time since a open crown hat has been a fashion statement. These days most folks just figure you don't know how to add a proper crease. I'm no fashion deva but I finally found a crease that would work for me while still allowing a proper fit for my odd shaped noggin.

Classic open crown up front:D Modern, western, fashion Deva from the side:rolleyes:
