Western, anyone?

California has had a moratorium on mountain lion hunting floor decades: the ranchers rarely mention them and I think the assumption is that the cats are quietly taken care of through...er...less official means.

Our (always gun toting) neighbor reported seeing a mountain lion on our property a few years back. Said it even charged him ... and then it just disappeared!:rolleyes:

Many years ago I euthanized a bobcat that had been hit by a car. I took the bobcat back to my office and set it on top of our gas pumps (we have our own on-site fueling) and posed it like it was looking down and the nozzle. I wasn’t there to see it but I was told that the next guy who used the pump screamed like a little girl.

We have a lot of bobcats where I work, but they mostly prey on rabbits, squirrels, turkeys, and other wild animals. I’ve never heard of them being suspected locally for domestic animal predation. They are beautiful animals. Mountain lions are also beautiful, but they have a mean look about them.

I picked this very modern Stetson Monza up in December along with some other wonderful hats from Panos @PanosChris. It's 100% beaver felt has allowed me to shape it just about any way I wanted.

As soon as I took it out of the box, it just said Western style to me. Anyway, here are some of the creases and looks I've been able to give it. Front pinches, side pinches, brim up or down, even no pinches, this hat just says it has to be a Western.

I know I'm a Danish city slicker who wouldn't know a bobcat from a mountain lion, but I hope I've done a Western some justice.

That's a good looking Stetson. I like it with the sides rolled up. It has an Open Road sort of vibe to it.

I always like black and white westerns.

I'm also real glad it's raining down here now. Had enough of that kind of white. Stay warm, Cuz.

Thanks, Cuz, for the compliments on the last two hats. The last storm just grazed us compared to what you guys saw. Her brother stayed in B’ham during that one rather than commute. This one dumped about 5” in just a few hours but it’s already above freezing, so the problems should be short lived.

Great pics BB, & a beautiful No.1Q. That's a great hat! A Woomera pales by comparison but I'm enjoying big brim black hats this season. I did drop on some horsehair to class it up today a bit.

On my wish list is a black BOP with that good original block look. Not one of those BOP's in name only.

Thanks, HJ, been enjoying mine as well. Always liked your setup on that Woomera and that old horsehair band would class up any hat. Reminded of the $1.50 retail price every time I see it. Such a BOP would be a great find.

You just don't come across these very often with this profile. A fellow Lounger gave this Knox Stagecoach to me. It sports a 7 inch open crown with a 4.5 inch brim width, including the pencil curl. I'm doing some refurb work on it and I was able to preserve its original block shape and brim width. Except for the hat band everything that was original to the hat will be reused on it. I'll have more when I'm finished...

As always, I'm looking forward to seeing the end result, Terry.

Great work, Terry. How do you like that Randall block? Thinking of getting one for use around here.
Thank you Tuk! I love my RA block. Of the blocks I have the RA is my favorite. But, I didn't use my RA on this particular project. To preserve the original profile of this hat I took it apart and used a #51 block to iron out the old creases. My RA is a totally different block shape and is much shorter at 5 3/4 inches. Everything would have changed. Anyway, I still have my 7 inch crown height and my 4.5 inch brim width.

All in all, the RA is my favorite.
