I like it, and the 6 cord really looks good!Ok, played around with this a little more. NOW, I think I like it.....So much I will probably just keep it. It is now a LOT different than when I started out working on it. Initially I bought it to play around with, clean up, re-block and flange, and then throw it in the classifieds. Well, I wore it home, had some positive comments on my way home(had a few stops) and well.......you know the story......

PS It really is that rich of a black as seen in the third photo......... View attachment 193151 View attachment 193153 View attachment 193155

I was going for the OLD hat look........I am pretty traditional with my westerns.......As for the crease...It is the crease the hat wanted (along with the curled brim, I think the hat was embarrassed with the 70's look....it DID jump right into my hand at the vintage shop and said: "PLEASE take me home")......And for a name I would go for "Mess Kit" myself!!!! But I like BOTH your designations.......Looks nice. From the outside, I’d have guessed it was much older. Is the the “centerfire” or “mess kit” crease?

Thanks for sharing this! Identifying old hats in catalogs is great information for all of us.Another Sears Carlsbad in nutria tan has surfaced:

Specs:
4" Brim (w/ curl)
6-3/4" Crown (open)
1-1/8" Ribbon
5.9oz Weight
Dinerman was the first to post one of these many years ago, though his was a different variant. More recently, @Hurricane Jack has posted one as well and this one appears to be the same as his.
After doing some digging I was able to find some older Sears catalog references that may place this hat from the 30s rather than the early 40s:

I even found one reference from a 1922 catalog, however, note that the product number is different on this earlier model:

Interesting that the description says this older hat was made of fur felt, so some time over the next decade the content changed from fur to wool. Also note the price variance, possibly due to pre vs. post Great Depression?
Definitely not the nicest hat in terms overall body and construction, but nevertheless one of the most interesting hats in my humble collection. A nice piece of everyday American history.
Outstanding hat! I hope you add it to the Agnoulita thread when you have the chance.
I have a black hare hat body from Agnoulita that is at VS waiting it’s turn to be made into something similar to yours. Seeing yours makes me excited to get mine. Thanks!

Great find on the hat and the catalog references. I had only found the 1940-1943 listings. Glad that one surfaced.Another Sears Carlsbad in nutria tan has surfaced:

Thanks Brent. The hare hat bodies sure look like they have a much finer texture than the rabbit. But being my first Agnoulita I thought it was the way to go. I should be putting up an in depth post on the Agnoulita thread tonight. My only complaint about it is it seems to be a bit smaller than anticipated I ordered it a half size big as I wanted it to sit on my head without curling the brim it all. But can you really complain about a hat that fits like a glove? Have your Agnoulitas stretched at all with wear?

Even though it gets underexposed somewhat when photographing it is a bit lighter shade. So it very well could be Sand. When I enlarge those ads for easier reading they go blurry. Which one lists Sand?...yours appears a lighter shade. There also doesn't seem to be as much color contrast between the body and ribbon. Could yours possibly be the Light Sand version?
