Been pretty busy lately but I did manage a drive out to the Davis place to get my latest hat rebuilt. I had posted this in the "post new hats" thread and I think most of you have seen it already. It's a beaver Brand pure beaver with a 3 1/2 inch brim.

OK....What crease would you give it....?
Did it changed color!?

Crease... It's a personal taste. But I would say no to the cattleman crease.

I like a Cattleman Crease , plus a bunch more . It is a personal preference thing , plus what the Hat would look right with . 6" is a good height to work with . They'll take a Montana Peak , or almost anything . Nice Color .

No, it's just the picture, it's indoors and with flash, not out in the sun.

It's more about what the hat would look right with....Don't really know how old the hat is but it looks vintage......with that said, yes I'm thinking Cattleman crease.
These are all variations on that crease...The first one being pretty standard.....the others not so much......

I think the last one is not called "cattleman". I would go for the last one.

Can anyone recommend a place to get a custom western hat?

Anyone have a hat from Knudsen Hats? I believe they may be able to do what I'm looking for..

What do you have in mind? Some styles and treatments are the forte` of certain hatters. Many can do a great job with a high quality beaver western with personal touches.

If you're pretty confident of your size and head oval (shape) , I'd go with www.mackeycustomhats.com , great quality and price .
A few others are Peters Bros , Buckaroo Hatters , Catalina Hatters , but I have a bunch more that are good .

Well Joao I sort of like the last one too...I also like the second one but not as much. As for the last one not being a cattleman I don't know for certain but then again it's an Akubra which is Aussie and they just call it a Outback Club. The second one is from Watson's Hat Shop and he just calls it a Horseman. Here is a chart from the web which shows some of the older creases and it looks like a "wide cattleman" or it could be a narrow brick crease........Who knows it could be both! :)

Thanks for the information.

I was pretty confident about my hat size, it seemed pretty consistent, until I bought a Stetson fedora recently. The shop even measured me and came up with the same size. When the hat came it was slightly large.

Wonder which hat makers would be close enough for me to visit? I'll have to find the list.

I'm looking for the hat Richard Boone wore, as Paladin, in Have Gun Will Travel. There are actually two (or three) different versions with slight variations through the 6 seasons. I have a specific version in mind.

There's a few hatter's here on the Lounge who can make up a nice Western for you. Buckaroo Hatters might be the ideal hatter for a custom Western. They also did the hats for the Hank Williams movie, "I Saw The Light".

This is for HJ. I know he's been considering something similar for one of his westerns. I watched a bit of "The Undefeated" last night and the Duke was wearing this.

I saw that same crease on one of Hank Williams' westerns in this you tube video. The crown height and the block shape are obviously different from the Duke's, though

No question that FL hatters can make a hat like Boones;I would suggest that it isn't far different from an Akubra Snowy River with a couple of tweaks.

Thats better than too small . You can pad it up and still wear it comfortably , it'll shrink in time . I think Terry or someone (Might be Art) said measure the block , it should be a size larger to accommodate the sweat . Not all 7 3/8 Blocks measure the same . Stetson seem to me to be a little smaller than Resistol generally for the same size . Still in the range though .
