Well, my turn in the Campdraft barrel

I made the order, another Taupe Fawn Campdraft owner in the making. Now I just need to forget about the thing until April.

Once it's here, I'm taking it to a local hatter and having a wider ribbon put on it, either to match the bound edge or black.
Likely I'll give it a diamond bash, with a high front and a lower back.

Oddly enough, everythingaustralian.com had the crown height listed as 4.12, which I assume is inches. Kinda freaked me out until I realized this was likely a post-shaping measurement and not the size of the open crown.
Most folks around here describe the Campdraft as having a nice, tall crown and the photos seem to bear that out.

I'm right about that, right? .....right?

Yep the crown is tall, and a diamond crease looks great on that tall crown.

By the way, since I am going to be putting a wide 30's style fedora ribbon on this thing, what's the consensus? Should I try and match the bound edge, forget the bound edge and go with a silvery tan, coffee or a caramel color, or just say to heck with it and get a black ribbon?

Might I ask why you didn't order from Hatsdirect?...They have them in stock usually...but they don't have them listed on their site....

Sure, and it's a good question. I love the Federation I got a few years back, and so I fired off an email to them about the Campdraft.

They had it, same price as the Fed, roughly 91 US dollars and change.

Wife wanted to see a picture, she googled and found everythingaustralian, noted the price difference, (just over 79 bucks at the time of purchase, now about 82) and her frugality kicked in.
Tales of great customer service from Hatsdirect did nothing to change her awareness of the current costs of food and gas.

I can get another Federation one of these days because Hatsdirect.com offers them. Otherwise I'd best be comparing prices.

I agree and I love her for it.

Oooo... feelin' a little - anxious - here, better not stare too closely while at work.
(Yes, the rational part of my mind understands just how odd it is to reacte that way to a hat, but hey, that's why I come in here and visit with my fellow addicts.)

Thats how Deelovely got her Coach purse. I ordered a camptown last summer so she got to get a Coach.[huh] :eusa_doh:

I would get the ribbon to match the edge binding. But when you get your hat , give the thin ribbon a chance. Wear it a few days and see what you might think about it. You may decide you like it.

Nice! Everythingaustralian says my Taupe Fawn Campdraft was finished by Akubra yesterday and should be on it's way next week. I expect it to be worth the long wait.
