You'll recognize me because I will most likely be wearing this jacket and a red fez.

Bravo on the complete outfit! I'm sure I speak for everyone else in saying we can't wait to see pictures of the entire ensemble - the Martini glass makes it!

I always thought that one wore a fez with a smoking jacket. I've never seen anyone but an Arab who could make it look natural in any other setting.

Ok,ok. My dumb question was about where do you wear a fez in public in the US or a non-fez country besdes a Masonic function. Hey I can get by going about in a fedora with no comments or stares, but a fez?:eusa_doh:

If you wear a fez, you're definitely inviting stares and comments. Except if you're a Shriner. They can wear a fez and nobody says anything. Granted, they are usually in a group and there is safety in numbers.

Even wearing a fedora you have to expect some degree of attention, but I agree that wearing a fez in public is not in the same universe as wearing a fedora. That's why I'm wearing mine to an event where it will be accepted.

If you really have guts, you can be like this guy in my neighborhood. He looks like Santa Clause and for a long time he wore a fez every day. He also has long conversations on public phones that don't work and lately he's been wearing a hat that looks like a duck. Now that's guts! Or crazy. You decide.

Aww, thanks Renee. I should have known that I'd find you here.

If you all haven't caught Renee's act, you should! She's very talented.

Google this phrase and read the extraordinary story of what happened when Mustafa Kemal Ataturk banned fez wearing as a national past time in Republican Turkey c 1920s-30s.

Fascinating - a bloke even wrote a book on it!

I know I've long coveted the fez supplied to members of the Cult of the Eye. They were, I also note, attending the recent Mondo Lounge Atomic Frolic (which sounded like a hoot).

The fellow behind those Fezes has set up shop at Fez-o-Rama online.

Mind you, I haven't seen one in the flesh, but they look darned cool in concept.

I picked up one at the Mondo event and they're incredibly comfortable to wear: velvet on the outside, quilted on the in. Also, they're available in larger sizes than the hard-shelled ones so it's nice to finally own a fez that fits! If you're considering one, my 7.5 hat size translates into their 2X fez.

A friend who I mailed that link to had a wonderful party years ago with a lot of people wearing fezzes - especially the US Lodge type ones. Mine was my ex-Disneyworld FL original.

Top theme and gets the mood going when the rest of the clothes look Casablancarish - and serving Moroccan food like Tajines and B'stillah.

Sorry for the forthcoming stupid question, but where in public would one wear a fez outside of of Masonic activities?
Why, into battle, of course.

Technically, zouaves wear what are called chechias, but it's the same concept
