@Dahrling: Believe me, your English is a lot better than my Swedish (pretty much limited to geography), or even the "American English" of most of the people on my block! (Can't really call it a "neighborhood", I'm about the only permanent resident.) I suppose steel-toed dress-shoes would solve the "foot problem", but on the short thing: let's just say that unless I'm straining myself for extra millimeters, the only way I even reach 5'6" is if I'm spectacularly hacked off.

well .. I am not really swedish, I am danish, but lives in Sweden.. but swedish/danish it is equally difficult to understand for a foreigner..

But the two do have a lot in common, right? (Even more embarrassing, the only Danish I know is from the pastry-shop! Suppose some time in Ballard would fix that, though... it's a part of Seattle that could be called "Little Scandinavia" for the origin of most of it's residents.) OTOH, for you to wield a tertiary language better than the animals next door do their primary, that's still pretty darn good! (Or they really suck that bad, or more probably both...:eek:lol--there are reasons I've turned the yard into a demilitarized zone!)

we do have a lot in common and the languages are very similar .. Well I hope the danishes are properly made - it would be fun to see how they taste outside Denmark (perhaps like pizzas from all over the world never tastes the same as the ones from Italy).

Well, guess that gives you a reason to visit someday, huh?;) I'd be tempted to look into shipping a sample, but the packaged stuff's full of preservatives and I doubt any made even close to right would keep in shipping... if it even got there at all, knowing how cargo-handlers and transportation-security types are! (Even if I were personally escorting a package, I'm not sure it'd get through... it'd probably disappear somewhere between baggage-check and the plane!)

That is incredible sweet of you - but you're right, I doubt sending a sample will arrive intact - with all the new security there is arround packages/shipments (or just the sweet tooth of a postalworker) i don't think I would ever see it. Plus it tastes much better freshly baked :) I think : that, meeting a bunch of you Fl's and a visit to the Cicada club would justify a trip to the States :)

Gasp! Desi de lu lu, what a lovely dress! I have to confess, I just bought that same fabric recently. Mine's destined for a halter dress or a play suit. I hope it looks half as good on me as yours does on you! :D

I was sorely disappointed he was unable to attend QM last year

And I am interested in meeting all the fantastic women with great taste in clothes.

I have met many loungers, it is a long list, so forgive me if I miss anyone, this is chronological:

MK & Mrs., Zemke & Mrs., Mike in Seattle, Matt Deckard, Travis, Brooskie, Anon, Cacklewack, Chucklehead, Beacillou, Reetpleet,
The Famous Hemingway Jones, Senator Jack, Mr. Bern, Paddy, Imoldfashioned, Art Fawcett, Powerhouse, Miss Sis, Ben Stephens, Neecrie, Lady Day, James & Lady Powers, Mojave Jack, (hmmmm, I need to go back and look at the QM photos) I know I met many more.

There are more pictures?! Oh no.;) :p

Thank you Joie DeVive, that is the nicest compliment I have received on the Lounge.

Waal, I haven't met you yet. Ooh, I'm on a list! What was your post? What did I say? Now I'm all giddy.

I wish I could remember, but it was over a year ago, so I don't know. I tried searching through my posts, but since the meltdown, they only go back to mid-December.

Hey! I'n on Retrogirl's list! (I wonder why! lol) I'm finally out of "Meet all Loungers" limbo! lol

Thank you freebird and Ms. DeVive! It would be great to meet you too!
Doran, are you sure we've met? Hmmm.....

I'd like to meet anyone I haven't met yet.

But what I REALLY want to do is go out to lunch every Friday with Feraud and Mr. Bern and the gang in NYC and chow down some more matzah ball soup, pickles and mile-high sandwiches while they roll me out the door. Yum!

God this is impossible - I'd have to say, every guy here, with their wonderful anecdotes and impeccable style, and all the ladies, cause they're so lovely and interesting.

I guess I'd especially like to meet (off the top o' me head):

RBH (so I could see that amazing Campdraft in person!:D )

KilroyCd (so we could talk about his amazing bike collection)

Edward (see above about the style)

Diamondback (he could school me in self defense!)

$ally (so i could see which avatar she resembles on that given day)

GWD (Dude - I want a ride in that Bel Air!!lol )

scotrace (so I can thank him in person for his copious advice on Macs)

All the musicians here (when is that FL jam, babies?)

Was there ever an informal gathering in NYC?
pls keep me posted if so....

We met at Bing's in Walnut Creek, right? Your husband had the beard and the tuxedo on. MK and Deckard and Lady Day were there. Or am I confused?

Was that someone else? I mean, I know you were there because I remember you, but maybe I wasn't there (even though I remember it) and instead of meeting me, you met someone else.

Oh, here is the evidence. I'm in the gray suit.

Well, I guess I need to meet you again, that's all.

Yes, I was not shirtless at Bing's, nor carrying a baby ... :p

And it would be my distinct pleasure to meet you again! We can talk rare books.

Ok, than it's settled! Next time we meet, you'll be shirtless, carrying a baby and we'll talk abut rare books and maybe even continue on that other conversation we were having.

I'm sure we'll bore everyone around us to tears. lol

I'm used to it ... get me around Diamondback some day (soon, I hope) and we'll bore everyone with Rommel In North Africa anecdotes until the cows come home ... in fact there are many boring things which I can discuss endlessly. Indo-European linguistics; Roman demography; ancient Greek participles; Levantine potsherds; the social consequences of sexual dimorphism in the longue duree of human history; the list goes on. I try to save them for people who will enjoy them.

Thanks, all of ya.

PGoat, a note: I don't really "teach" per se, I prefer to think of myself as a "facilitator", helping others teach themselves, mainly suggesting sources and ideas to consider and acting as a "sparring partner"--especially in the "mental sparring" role that the dojo, or the studio, or wherever you practice can't help you with and you've gotta learn it on the street. I like to say over 75% of successful self-defense is in the library--studying tactics and physiology and even psychology, then meditating or soul-searching about "if 'this' is at stake, then I will respond at 'that' level", and cultivating a 'survivor mindset.' Be like Ike:
"It's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog."

Doran, funny thing: I'm working on a research project involving the Desert Fox right now, as it happens. (The current release of Axis & Allies Miniatures is focused on the N. Africa campaigns, and the group of gamers I'm working for want to know how to model the various armies involved vehicle-for-vehicle. The Afrika Korps itself is comparatively easy as is Patton's II Corps, but the Italian forces that made up the majority of Armeegruppe Afrika are the real problem.)
