Send me your suit pics

Hi Matt,

As per your request, here are some photos of vintage suits that I've sold in the past. (I've sent you a PM as well, but in case you don't receive it ...)

All of these photos have been posted at some point in the FL. Here they are in one place:

I will be glad to put more info on the pics. (Eras, materials, even measurements.) Just let me know if you'd like the extra info.

The idea is for you to post these photos in a permanent visual reference gallery/library section in www.thegoldenera.net . Such a section will make it far easier for folks to see, in one place and at any time, images of vintage '20s, '30s, '40s, and '50s suits ... to educate their eye and perhaps show to their tailors.

I'm sure that if you ask other Loungers to contribute photos of their own vintage suits, they'd be more than glad to!

Thanks a lot, Matt!

Marc

I've been in love with this suit and tie since the first time you posted it.

>Mid 1930s tan gabardine suit with belted back.
This one, too. Just stunning.

You have great taste Mr. Chevalier. :) Some of the finest double breated pieces I've seen.

Oh man, that Hollywood style two tone jacket is so amazing.
Do you mean the one with sleeves that are different from the body of the jacket? That one's a bit wild for my taste...

The thing is, all these suits and sportcoats are no longer in my hands. They've all been sold on eBay over the past 10 months. But at least we still have the photos.

My picturetaking has improved somewhat with time. You'll notice that some photos are worse than others. Those are my earliest pics. Unfortunately, I no longer have the suits to re-photograph. What you see is all we've got.

I've kept very little. I still have about seven suits in my personal collection, but some of them are pretty conservative and plain, not very interesting. One exception is a navy blue wool, wide herringbone stripe, 3-piece double-breasted suit with a belted back. It's from the late 1930s. Another is an off-white, single-breasted tussah silk suit from the late 1940s. I do have several suits that look like they're from the Golden Era, but were in fact made recently ... so I won't include them in the photo gallery. That would be dishonest. :)
