This is absolutely wonderful--a lovely vintage suede jacket, made by Gordon of Philadelphia for Marshall Fields' flagship store in Chicago.
The light creamy-beige suedette from which this is cut is extremely high quality--as you'd expect from Gordon of Philadelphia. It has also been very carefully stored, and so is still lovely and supple without any hint of stiffness. It has a wonderful hand and a lovely soft nap, with no rubbing at all.
Although the nature of suedette precluded Gordon of Philadelphia from making suede 3/2 sack jackets they remained true to their Ivy credentials by making suede (or suedette) two button sack jackets--of which this is one.
Beautifully cut and sewn, this jacket has elegant curving side seams to give the body shape. It has a single center vent, and flapped patch pockets: These are surrounded by lapped seams. Even when working with suede Gordon of Philadelphia didn't omit the details!
The buttons are extremely thick, and are hand-cut from natural horn. Each button is unique. All of the buttons are present and original.
The lining is absolutely spectacular--a wonderful and unusual regimental stripe in the colours of the Argyle and Sutherland regiment.
This jacket likely dates from the late 1960s or early 1970s. It is in excellent condition--with the exception of two tiny minor blemishes on the leading edge of the placket, as shown.
Asking just $65, or offer, boxed, shipped, and insured in the USA.
