I got one, love it, great for keeping my lunch cool in summer and my drink hot in winter. Although I would like a traditional dome top lunch box, this is better in practical terms.

Bruce, how do you like it? I have two of the Stanley thermoses built in the USA (prior to the Chinese takover). They work very well, and in my experience far better than the Chinese ones - of which, I've thrown two away.

How does this one hold up? Improved quality? How many quarts is the thermos?

I believe that the thermos is only 1 quart, which is plenty for me. I usually carry milk in mine. I try to put the food in the pail at the last minute before leaving the house in the morning so that it stays cool. It has to stay cool for at least 7 hours before lunch break. So far it it holding up well.

Hi, Lunch Pails used to actually be pails or buckets. Everyone had a bucket around the house anyway. I guess really big guys had coal buckets...

The original lunch pail or dinner pail was a tin pail with a lid that pressed on. Honey pails were popular, honey was sold in 5 pound tins and when you had eaten up all the honey, you had a dinner pail.

These are modern, steel ones. But I would love an antique enameled one, if I can ever get my hands on one in good condition at a decent price.
