This is a very interesting jacket, not even sure the year. The main zip is probably changed in the 50s. The Ball and Chains are late 30s and seldom seen. The traditional half-belt back and wool lining are an unique mix with this front style. The half-belt combined with a D pocket front like the Sears jackets is late 40s.

The Perfecto name was used on various jackets during Schotts early years. I have the Schott book with many interesting jackets from the 30s and 40s. These jackets rarely show up on the market.

This is one I would like to own. There are many in the Schott book that will make you drool, they are pretty much only found in a book.

The Topline series was just that, Sears Top jackets. They first appear in the 1941 catalog and are short lived. WWII ended this line just as it was starting.

Note the use of buttons on this jacket. Buttons were dominate in the catalogs for a short time during the war. This was most likely due to war time metal shortages. By 1942 even leather jackets are scarce in the catalogs.

I own four Topline jackets. One I have no doubt was made by California Sportswear company as I own the same jacket with a Sears and CSC labels.

I've seen a few other Toplines that were most interesting. These were the highlight for the Sears brand. To me, these were the end of the Golden era jackets. Nothing quite as interesting was made after the War.

Another exemplar of the elusive 1948 Hercules Type 1, from a japanese website; it is unlabeled, but I think there's no doubt regarding its identity:

I have seen these with a variety of labels. I believe a company called Ranger made these for the catalogs.

thanks for posting this informative history by David Himmel. I would love to compare notes with him. I want to comment more on the King of Fur jacket when I have time. I live about 1.5 hours from Dubuque Iowa.
