Really gorgeous jacket Terry!

I like this jacket much more than the Original Hercules. I will do a comparison of the two. The Pony Hide on the Windward is heavier leather than the Hercules. Will make an interesting comparison given the Hercules is the so well known. Mine is very well worn, but also affordable.

Thought I would start a series on my youtube channel. This one is jackets from the 1930s.

Today is a Goatskin Aviator jacket. Very light weight goat in excellent condition. Lining is also light weight. A popular style reflecting the romance with aviation into the late 1930s. Features the beautiful sunrise Talon zipper, triple marked. Traditional half-belt with side adjustments at the half-belt.

Man I love that 30s Goatskin Aviator. The last time I heard from JC he had just picked up a 30s Horsehide Aviator that he might reproduce.

This is the Windward/Admiral Byrd 1930s Half-belt. Admiral Byrd label says Pony Hide. I have seen this exact jacket in brown. This has the early Montgomery Wards label on a cotton flannel lining. The addition of the Admiral Byrd label I can not explain. I have had Admiral Byrd jackets with no MW label, so I'm not sure what that means. If I could find this jacket in my size I would own it. This is my favorite style of front pockets.

Really love the collar on this Windward/Byrd model. Would totally buy a repro in chrome-tanned horsehide as a work jacket provided the shoulder gussets and general pattern provided for a wide-range of movement. Though I'd opt for Filson-style one-handed hidden snap loop closures on the cargo pockets instead of buttons.

Sears Topline. These were the high end of the Sears line up. I have two Toplines in my collection. (this one is not mine) I know one I own was made by California Sportswear company around 1940. High quality in design and execution. This one looks to Capeskin, a popular leather in this era. I would guess also made my California Sportswear. One of my Toplines is a Capeskin in a different style.

A very popular California Sportswear jacket. The button on the pockets, the design going into the pockets was often used. This is Goatskin. A very popular leather in the Golden Age. This is not mine, but I have two like this in Goatskin.

The Talon Ball and Chain is a most charming zipper pull. Not often seen. I am quite sure it was rather more expensive to produce.

This doube needle stitched D-pocket reminds me of Block-bilt and later on Ralphs-pugh.
