Good ones, Harv!

Thanks Dale. It was nice to go there this weekend. The whole strip is full of this stuff. I just scratched the surface. Its like driving down the street in 1958. All historical, and all still operational. Way cool.

Now an antique store.

Great sign. Reminds me that there was a time when some stores had odd combinations of merchandise - furniture, jewelry and appliances (even most department stores today - at least in NYC - have dropped furniture). And not like today, where a store might, effectively, sublease space to something else - these stores tended to be proprietor owed and run with each area a real part of the store.

Here are a few I've photographed around Texas over the past few years...

Candlelite.JPG Texas.JPG IMGP1144-001.JPG Arcadia.JPG
The Candlelite Inn in Arlington. Installed around 1955, I'd suppose, it's since been moved when the restaurant was remodeled, but it exists.
The Texas Theatre in Oak Cliff, Dallas. Not the original sign, I believe this one was installed when they restored the theater some years back.
Comet Cleaners in Arlington.
Arcadia Theater in Kerrville. Originally built in a Spanish style in 1926, this facade was installed in later years ('50s maybe?). Last time I was there, they were in the process of renovating, apparently it's back up and running now.

Rexall.JPG Uptown.JPG Lantex.JPG
Decrepit Rexall Drugstore sign in Grand Saline.
Uptown Theater in Marble Falls.
Lantex Theater in Llano.
