I always do my nails in a nice almond shape, mid-length. I have TERRIBLE natural nails, they break off as soon as they get past the tip of my finger. To save myself some money, I've started doing my full nail sets myself, it takes a bit of practice but they look spectacular. Plus, my acrylic sets hold up during my weekly bowling night as well as dancing. I'm ok with fake nails as long as they don't *look* fake.

I almost always do red, but I go back and forth between full color and half-moon manicures. Right now I'm in a sparkly mood! I'm a big fan of ChinaGlaze, OPI and Sally Hansen for color, and I am in love with Sally Hansen Insta-Dri as a topcoat. It's incredible. This is my current manicure (though I may change the color later today):

Glad I could help Rita! The nail salons around here never quite "get" the almond shape, they usually only do those horrid squared off french manicures... eeek! I usually have to draw a picture. I did get a REALLY nice set done at a full service salon by a nail artist, she knew exactly what I meant when I said half-moon manicure... even the nail shape. She knows her vintage fashion! Too bad she's not in my town :(

The best OPI reds by FAR are

I got the blues for red ( LOVES IT)

Keys to my Karma

double decker red

big apple red

I like the more blue tone reds.... probably why i wear Ruby Woo too!

I think i own every red OPI makes. They make the best nail polish and I also get them at cost since I am a cosmetologist so it helps my addiction!

Vintage manicure in a dime question and fav reds

Hey you beautiful ladies. I see we are talking about nails. My favorite reds are OPI vodka and caviar and a cheaper one called Isadora in summer red (my all time favorite). I am always on the hunt too for a candy apple red but with no cherry type tones in it. Instead more like a blue red. Sounds backwards right? LOL

On a side note I have been wanting to do the moon shape on my painted nails and read you guys are using reinforcements. I have only tried those cruddy french manicure strips which I cannot get to work. So I was wondering how you would apply the reinforcement to get that shape at the bottom of your nail if they are round? Thanks Ladies

Here are a few examples with pics:

(the blogger below cuts them in half, which I don't do but is a good idea to get even more out of your pack of reinforcements - she also makes a bigger "moon" than I would do but that's a personal choice):

**UPDATE***

Well, about 3 weeks ago I broke down & went to the local "MALL" (victorvalley Mall) to the oriental shop there & I spent the money to get the acrylics back on! the real nails were getting the cuticles ripped off (long story),sides were getting "picked at" till I got them bleeding (you guessed it ~I am 'going through something') so I said befor I get to bare bone & raw skin I'd better just get them back on till i get this "fixed" so..go them done they really looked "pretty" however.....return for fills..GASP, the guys not there! so....do i take a chance or what do i do! so i think Ok I'll just do the fills myself! yeah well that didn't happen! so my daughter decides to get her car washed & actually right next door is a place I go in tell the guy I'm wanting a vintage look with red polish & i'd like them almond shape NEXT TIME just so that if he didn't do a good job on the fills my entire set wouldn't be jacked up for this last weekend of january! so........the set was done to perfection! so.......now! back to the grocery store to find that almond! Shell it, & get the shape done right! (BTW the guy owns this place so he's not going anywhere!)

my manicure

Here is my current nails. I used the french manicure stickers for the moon and NO7 Berrylicious nail varnish. The night before i painted my nails with a leighton denny nude polish so that hopefully the stickers didnt take it off and it worked! I think it turned out quite well.

My nail lady is great! First time, just few words and a Dita's picture, and here's the result!

B.

Your nails look stunning!

I tried this myself, but as I have no half-moons the shape I ended up with was more exaggerated. It still generated a lot of interest as I'm sure yours do!
