That's ok!! I actually found a piccture of it somewhere but I can't seem to find the pattern anywhere so I guess I get to try to do it myself with modern patterns. EEHH!! We will see how that works out!! I don't need it until April or whenever it gets warm enough to wear it here again so I have time!!! Which is a good thing because we are in the process of selling our house and buidling a new one...



I think making it myself will work though. I would change it even if I had the pattern anyways since I dont like the bows on the shoulders and want to make it a little more 40s so I can wear it to WWII weekend in April...

I've made it a couple of times, used the skirt parts to make swirl style dresses, etc. If you want sleeveless, I'd suggest
raising the armhole, but all in all a very versatile pattern.

Target is at it again! I just saw some black shirtwaist dresses there today. I thought them rather smart looking. They button up the front, have what I would describe as tulip cut sleeves, an a-line skirt that hit me a bit below the knee and a belt. Unfortunately, the belt gave it much too high a waist for me, but maybe it will work for some of you. They came in around $40.

Do any of you ladies own the Bettie Page Substitute dress (flared)? I am in love with that dress and found one in my usual size (M), but read that it runs really small in the bust. I was wondering if there is much stretch and how small it actually runs? I'm worried the waist will be too big in a size large.

ETA: I got a response from the seller and apparently there is barely any stretch and the back measurement from sleeve to sleeve is tiny (14"), just in case anyone is interested.

I have bought several items from Mode Merr and the service has always been impeccable ( and believe me I am picky). Perhaps its just a glitch I would try again. I know I had a problem with Stompers boots not getting back to me they were very aplogetic when they did get my email my first one got lost.

Hello all,

I don't know if any one mentioned http://www.modcloth.com/ yet. They have a lot of vintage inspired clothes as well as a vintage section. Their dress section is amazing, lots of dresses from the 50s 60s style, a 40s style occasionally. Their heels are nice as well. They're having a huge sale right now on winter clothes but many of those clothes could easily be worn year round.

I was looking at Mode Merr's perfect skirt, but it seems as though the waist-hip ratio on the Heartbreaker pencil skirt is closer to my body. I'm 5'8" with a 29" waist and 41" hips.

Everything I've ever ordered from ModCloth has gone back, with the exception of shoes. I've found all their dresses really short and made of flimsy, scratchy fabrics. I will say that their customer service is good and I've never had a problem with returns.

I'm sure it's been mentioned before in this thread, but I've just received my first purchase from Tara Starlet (www.tarastarlet.com), the Home Front Dancing Dress, and I'm really pleased. The material is reminiscent of a 40s crepe fabric and it fits really well. The finish might not be absolutely perfect for the price to be honest, if you're being really picky like me, but their clothing is made in London which is a bonus.

When it comes to Modcloth I agree... I love a lot of the dress designs, but they're all way too short! I hate that about new vintage style clothing... I don't want to flash my bum, I want a knee-length dress!!

Oh thanks for the heads up! I haven't bought from them yet but I window shop there frequently, I noticed many of the reviews noted the dresses were too short.

Re: Modcloth. There is a subcategory "longer lengths". Rarely they will have something longer and not maxi there. I've only had accessories luck with them.

I think you were right there; I tried contacting them via Facebook and Angela answered back straight away. She said they'd gotten my emails and responded, but I never got anything. Glad it worked out well for you I have had really good experiences and I know they have grown a lot over the years but good to know the service is not suffering.
