When I send someone an email, I invariably refer to it as a TWIX - the old reference to 'teletype'. I got in the habit of attaching a .jpg of a Twix Bar as bit of humor. Most recipients just do not get it!!!! [huh]

That would confuse me if someone said they sent me a TWIX. A delicious chocolate covered cookie centered confection? What did I do to deserve such a treat?! :)

Oh, wait, its just a digital note. Oh foo, never mind. :(

Bit dull mine, but... Cellphone doesn't get used over here anyway. It's "mobile". To differentiate between the two I would call a " land line". Not really great is it?[huh] Only thing I can thing of is a "plane station" for airport. Never quite got the hang of airport. Bit of a hangover from moocows when I was younger.

I'm way too big a fan of the word "aerodrome" to use anything else.

Ahoy hoy,

Did anybody find a replacement for BLOG, a word I despise, and not just because it refers to, well, blogs, but because it sounds like something one might expect to find in a diaper.

Thank-you in advance.

Blog? Are you referring to the "auto-publishing electro-journal"?

Winner! :eusa_clap

Anytime I see a blog - anyone's blog - it reminds me of a quote I recently read: "She had mastered the art of speech, but not the art of communication." (I think I know this gal!)

This is a great thread! I love finding new (old?) ways to describe things. Especially if it throws people off.

And for the simple reason that I hate carrying things in my pockets (or worse, on my belt!), I have so far managed to avoid "field telephones", "pocket Victrolas" and other space-aged communication devices. (Communicators?)

A bit off-topic, but just a bit: When I was first reading the Oz books in 1988/89, we had JUST gotten a portable telephone for the house, in addition to (not replacing) the more attractive vintage wall phone we still used. Mother frequently asked us to bring her the "wireless" phone. (As inaccurate as that is.) Therefore, when L. Frank Baum wrote in his introductions about communicating with Ozians via "wireless," I felt I knew EXACTLY what he was talking about!

On-topic, I'm still trying to come up with a word I like for "fax machine." The previously mentioned facsimile machine would work best for a copier, I think. But I just hate when I'm asked to "fax" something. Certainly, just the facts, sir?

I am immediately stealing "field telephone," and "electric post" for my cards. What a creative crew on this board! I love that a few of the names sound like something you'd see in a Tom Swift title. "Tom Swift and His Electrodigital Chronometer."

also a little off topic, but a back-to-front version of what we are talking about, is in Vladimir Nabokov's Ada novel (where my screen name comes from) which was published in 1969, he spoke of what he called a 'chunnel' connecting britain and france - a word which is now in general parlance!

Yes, Senator, something like that indeed! Those are very handsome cards, they look terrific. I've been unhappy with my book business cards for sometime, but never had the inspiration to do anything with them. Thanks for showin' off!

Look at that subtle off-white coloring.
The tasteful thickness of it.
Oh, my God. It even has a watermark."
