My contribution.....for ATM's (Automated Teller Machines or Cash dispensers)

"Money O Matic Machine"

I was in Prague last year where an ATM is referred to as a Bank-O-Mat - a perfect retro-fururist name.

On my web site I've used Electronic Mail for about a year, but now I cast my vote for Electrogram! It's going on the site and card asap. It is funny how so many of us have these small technophobe tendencies. Not for technology itself but really how it looks (mostly bad) and what it's called (extremely uncreative).

See, it all depends on the sentence.

"Can you send that to me by electric post?"

BUT

"It was with keen interest that I read your recent electrogram."

Oh, and Doc, 'Field Telephone' is definitely going on the business card. Thanks for that one.

'Internet' I leave alone though. I think it already sounds vintage enough. Do we have anything for Ipods/MP3 players?

Well, much like old radios, the internet is also technology based on a series of tubes. :D

iPod = "Pocket Victrola" (victrolette?)

Okay, say that I have no ability to communicate, but as I said in the $5 word thread, there are some words I just don't like. 'E-mail' is one of them. I don't like the way it sounds. It's a dull word. So when it came down to printing some new business cards, I wanted something else, and now my card will read 'Electric Post:" followed by my address. Yes, I know the 'E' is for 'electronic', but that has too many syllables. 'Electric Post' sounds right to me.

Anyone else have a Burnsian (Something's coming over the faxtrola, Smithers.) word for 21st Century technology?

Regards,

Senator Jack

I really like this thought!
But isn't it a strange situation if people ask you "What do you mean? Electric Post?", it's not really stylish if you then explain it to the prosaic(?)

My grandmother's father got into the automobile business very early - say around 1912. It was the second automobile dealership in our state. My family always referred to this business as "the Motor Car Company." I thought this was funny as a child. To, what? differentiate it from, say, the Railroad Car Company?

Well, at that point, the jury was still out on whether those new-fangled automobile contraptions weren't just another impractical fad. :D

Earlier this year, I had an input doohicky for a pocket victrola installed in my motorized carriage, and got so excited over the prospect that I immediately contacted a few friends via cellular device. Heck, when I got home that day I even contacted a few more over the electro-post to tell them about it, too, just like I am now.

I highly recommend it -- it's like having a tiny orchestra at the ready in your glove box!

Yes on all counts, Senator!

And I think I'm gonna ditch my cellular device in favor of one of those "pocket phones" -- they sound nifty, and it is the Modern Age after all!

TWIX

When I send someone an email, I invariably refer to it as a TWIX - the old reference to 'teletype'. I got in the habit of attaching a .jpg of a Twix Bar as bit of humor. Most recipients just do not get it!!!! [huh]

One I forgot to mention, but has just sprung to mind as I reached for it now: the Electric Notebook. In my case it's a Palm T3, in a nice leather case with a zip that looks like a notebook until you open it up.
