Getty is strangely enough a treasure trove for vintage pics.

Clydeside 1954 here, caps seemed to be getting smaller to me into the fifties.

Y'know, looking at these photos it occurs to me that I have an inordinate number of hats and caps for a person with only one head. I'm guessing these gents had maybe--maybe--one cap they wore to work and another cap or hat for non-working hours.

Would make sense, one tattier/worn hat for work, one cleaner one for sunday best/going to the pub, same with the suits, one for work, one for occasions, seems thirties style caps were also worn all the way into the sixties as pictured below, one thing i also notice is how newsboy caps seemed to be less popular in The uk and europe compared to the US.

Yeah, I have way too many. I only wear about 5 during the winter months and a different set of 5 during the summer. I need to donate some to Goodwill.

I'm not sure about whether or not I have "too many", but I do have more than I wear regularly and, on occasion, still buy more. As you wrote, I think it's time to separate the caps I don't wear and donate those to Goodwill.

I have a few...always been a fan of the 6 panel and my oldest is about 35 yrs old, purchased new and now nicely worn to a near relic condition. 4 years ago I bought a couple from Aran Sweater Market in Ireland, which are maybe the best made caps I've ever come across. I bought a grey tweed Stetson cap on line last winter, which is also a good quality cap.

^ I have four or five of those Mucros Weavers "Trinity" caps myself, and I think they're really good value for the money. Light, comfortable, keep your head warm when the temperature drops to below comfortable, and a good selection of colors and patterns to choose from. As long as you get the right size, you can't go wrong.

Thoughts on this cap my mum made for me?, went for the smaller style what you started seeing somewhat more into the 40's and 50's but still not modern, it's probably not historically accurate but i think it fits the look and i think she did a decent job seeing as she's not an hatmaker. crown is about 10 inches wide with a 1 inch rim, the crown was 2 circles sewn together, pretty simple really.

I like that a lot, have been trying for a long time to find one that hugs the head like that, and sticks out on the sides too, like they did in the old days of the thirties and forties

Cheers mate, it's the hat band around the hat what does that i think, if it didn't have the band it wouldn't stick out as much, i also i have a few english style ''bond'' caps what are pretty much like 30's caps but they look about the same size as they havent got the hat band.
