Thanks all. The kind words are appreciated.

Now, if it would only cool off enough in this God forsaken desert so that I could wear it for more than five minutes at a time.

PS - Oh, and Douglas, I'd gladly pay you Tuesday for a Homburg today!

I wanted to ask members here if they thought I needed a haircut. And did they like my wide brimed Stetson? Actually, for those who didn't know, (which is probably very few here) the pic is James Butler Hickok, a.k.a. Wild Bill, and he wore both his guns and hats well. I'm enjoying the site as a newbie, and the info here is great.

Hey, was that you that I was bidding against on this one? If so, I appreciate your congratulations and compliments even more. That's class.

Hiya,

Indeed it was me. The way I look at it, you got a hat that you were totally stoked to win and which looks super on you, while I'll have that much more money to spend on Christmas presents and won't have to re-organize hat storage again. It was a true win-win, man! :cool2:

But you gotta wear it now. I think it was Dinerman who said, a few postings up in this thread, that homburgs take some getting used to. Judging from my own experience, he's right. The more you wear that Barseloni and get into its style and personality, the better. If you shy away from it, it'll just gather dust.

Cheers,
Mark

Again, thank you for being such a gentlemen.

As for wearing it, I am right now! I may not be the most expensive hat I've owned, or the best hat, but it quickly became my favorite.

One of the reasons I was so enthusiastic about this hat is that it reminded me of something I've been searching for for a while. I come from a family of writers and railroad men. I have a picture of my Great-great-great-grandfather standing in front of his engine in the rail yards of Punxatawney, Pa wearing a high crowned, raw edged, shackle curled, seeming to be Homburg. It's beat up and worn down and donned with such flair... I've had this picture since I was a kid and I've always admired those men. So, now I got one. Try and make me take it off. Go ahead, I dare ya! :)

Howdy,

Whaddaya know, my mother's family were railroaders back 3 or 4 generations too. Worked for the L&N or B&O mostly. There's even a station stop in eastern Kentucky that the railroad named for my great-great grandfather (Bailey's Switch). And I used to be in the Railway Clerks, when I worked for the Soo Line in Chicago.

Bringing it back onto the subject of hats, I really wish someone still made fitted railroad hats. Haven't seen one in a work-clothes store since I quit the Soo Line and moved out west in 1979.

And to steer it all the way back to topic, with heads our size, it's hard to find hats like the ones in those old photos that fit us. I've been mulling over the idea of having Art Fawcett craft me one that resembles the ones my railroading uncle Bill used to wear. Maybe that'll happen after all some of these days. . . .

Cheers,
Mark
