Hello (and help!)

I'm new here, was a bit of a lurker before but decided to sign up and ask you lovely peeps for some advice.

I am looking for somewhere to have a small gathering to celebrate my belated birthday but am having problems finding a good old vintage night out in London. Due to my friends' schedules the only free day to do this is this Saturday (10th July)

Does anyone have any suggestions? I know it's soon but I've been so busy with work I'm running out of time. I was also thinking of a Burlesque night out but nothing too commercial like Cafe de Paris or Madam Jojos.

Thanks in advance :)

Darkangel, you might want to have a chinwag with a member here called Edward, he's been organising events for London Loungers here and could probably help point you in the right direction or give you a few ideas.

Happy Birthday to you as well!

Thanks Smithy.

I don't have enough access privileges to look for him properly but will have a go at stalking him a bit later :p

I am dying to go to the Quecumbar http://www.quecumbar.co.uk/ It's a lovely vintage themed bar with appropriate entertainment. It's not too badly priced either. I want to go!!! :p

Thanks Miss Scarlett. It looks like a great place but it's a bit too far south for me. I'm a North Londoner and the thought of staggering home on the night bus at 2am from there might be too much!

Thanks for the suggestion though. x

I've not been in there, but I've been past it... looks like a cool place.

If you're looking for burlesque events in London in future, a good source is the Ministry of Burlesque. http://www.ministryofburlesque.com/ Purely a personal opinion and one with which others are free to disagree, but I would avoid anyting tied to the name of Chas Royale as being rather too "burlesque by numbers for the office party crowd". Any nights run by the White Mischief folks are great, ditto anything to which Dusty Limits, Vicki Butterfly, and others put their names. In terms of venues, Bethnal Green Working Men's Club puts on some good stuff. And look out for the return of the Boom Boom Club (Thursday nights, The Bathhouse, near Liverpoll St Station) in September. A lot of the best burlesque turns now are more likely to be found frequenting events billed as 'cabaret' rather than burlesque, the latter term having fallen out of favour in some circles owing to the amount of rubbish put on by people who think sticking on some "strippers" in basques amounts to "burlesque"...

Other venues that put on some great stuff include The Pigalle club (Picadilly - expensive, though!) and Last Days of Decadence in Shoreditch (particularly good on Saturday nights).

For those of us so inclined, I can smell a London Loungers' night out.... :)
