Just my two cents, but something tells me we should get this thread going again. It seems like it should continue as the “official Vanson thread“.

If merged, the posts wouldn't line up, and we couldn't tell what post was responding to which. If that makes sense. I should have merged them when the other thread started, but I didn't catch it.

Could the pretender to the throne be locked? (I hope I'm not overstepping my bounds)

Why do people get so interested in merging threads, locking threads, and telling new members when they should (or shouldn’t) create new threads?
Seriously, we are talking about jackets and pants and boots here. There is nothing urgent about this forum, nor any reason that it needs to be streamlined and perfectly ordered and organized.

Sorry for thinking it might be nice to find the info in one place instead of missing half of it as I was unaware of the existence of another thread.

@JonS1967 and @rogueclimber, I just wanted to say that I am not trying to pick a fight with you guys or say that there is no merit to your idea. I guess I just like the organic, meandering flow of the lounge and so I resist suggestions that would make it more logical or user friendly.
No offense taken here. Both perspectives have merit. What a great community we have here. Cheers.

Back to jackets? Back to jackets!

Here's the Vanson x Left Field Commando I just picked up. Seems to be from the first run of these, meaning it's about a decade old at this point. Very nicely broken in X150. Super comfortable. It does that magical thing where it looks and feels great both with just a t-shirt and with a heavy wool sweater underneath. Great on the moto too!

Stands up on its own, even this broken in:

For reference, jacket is an M and I'm about 6' / 185 lb

Of course as with any jacket you can customize it to hell or buy a stock and tailor it to all hell to have a super tight fit or loose fit. Have a jacket solely for a t or for layering. But stock Vanson sizing when you narrow it down and truly know your size with them comes down to pattern. Vanson doesn’t have the sexiest leathers, striking hardware or liners, the most perfect stitching. Of course they are not bad at any of that stuff they just aren’t the best either is my point. But what they seem to be the best at, at least to me is patterns. Their jackets just fit so well. They are so functional. They work on a bike, off a bike, with a tee or a sweater. They have just mastered functional patterning. They know what they are doing when it comes to designing and cutting jackets that just seem to fit and work.

Congratulations brother, and welcome to the Commando Club!
I got mine back in 2019 and it is a really sweet jacket, makes anyone who puts it on looks like a total bad ass, whether they are or not.

I know the received wisdom is not to shorten sleeves from the bottom, but am I correct in thinking that this mystery Vanson is a good candidate for the procedure?

Fits great otherwise, and it almost seems like Vanson sleeves are made to be easily modifiable—no cuff stitching, extra long zip and tight enough at the wrist that doing it up all the way cuts off the circulation to my hands.

Any dangers I’m not foreseeing in taking an inch or so off at the wrist? (I would be going to a well-regarded leather alterations specialist e.g. Byson.)

P.S. Vanson never managed to ID the model (bizarrely suggesting that it looked like a chopper)…
