I've never thought about whether my sister-in-law misses my brother. [huh] After all those years together I'm sure she does.

I've never had a boyfriend on Valentine's Day, so I've never really celebrated it. I've never had to worry about getting someone something, because I've never received anything. This year looks like more of the same.

I've gotten used to it now-- in middle school and high school it was tough because I never had a boyfriend so I never had anyone to spend lunch with holding hands and such. I was always very jealous of the girls that got flowers and teddy bears, and it hurt a lot, actually, that I was never good enough for any of the boys.

This is my second Valentine's day out of high school, and college is a bit better-- it's not as "in your face."

I guess the only way I feel about Valentine's day is left out. Maybe I'll feel different if I ever have a Valentine. I should find something to do on Valentine's day instead of moping, though. Maybe I'll got volunteer somewhere or something.

Maggie, this could have been written by me. I hated Valentine's Day in high school and college. In fact, some single friends and I once wore black on Valentine's Day in college in protest. I, too, always felt left out and had this bizarre hope that I had a secret admirer who would make himself known on that day. Never happened.

I still don't enjoy it, even though when we were married, my husband always got me something.

I should get a little box of candy for all the recent widows and widowers I know: my brother-in-law, sister-in-law and neighbor. And one for me too.

Valentines Day in Elementary and Jr.High wasn't too bad.In Elementary if you did Valentines you HAD to give one to EVERYONE.No one left out. In Jr.High we did Carnations and Candy, The school's Cheerleaders sold them, so you bought one for your whole "group" of friends, and it was all good. I went to public school in 8th grade, and got asked out on V-day so I wasn't too sad, but now...V-day is just to sappy for me.

It can be hard to move on when you see the person every day.

I keep in mind what my brother told me: a lot of married people would love to trade places with you. He was married long enough to know.
One of those 'grass is greener on the other side' things? OTOH, my single datapoint of comparison was my second year on my alma mater's paper, where that editor I had fallen for and I happened to end up doing a restaurant-review together on Valentine's Day...

Someone will be thinking any one of us :) and pondering sending a card but they won't go through with it
Or, in some cases, would like to send somebody one but wouldn't know where to send it.:(

At my alma mater, one of the campus bars threw a "Bitterness Bash" complete with an incinerator to burn the mementos of past relationships.

oh to love again.

:D  The grass is always greener over the septic tank, having been married for twenty years. The girl that i remember is the one that told me to get as much sex before marriage cause there wouldnt much after. The 12 to14 hours days and the diapers and the mortage take their toll. I just stayed up this late so i could record something for my wife on the old vcr tv in my workshop, no i dont know how to use the timer. Isnt that love, there are times that i would gladly trade my wife in , and probably vice versus, but I would really see how a person mood swings are , where i in the market ever again. LOVE is a bowl of cherries how come i am here with the pits. I always take my family sometimes even my elderly mother out for valentines, even if its only the old diner. Wishing the best for those with sweethearts and wishing you too find someone for those that are without, yours 59Lark.:eek:fftopic:

The beautiful and mysterious tends to look glamorous: romance to the ingenue, the single life to someone who married young.

It bites.
Last year I tried to get my friend to be my valentine, but he doesn't do valentines day.
I guess loving your friend who has issues and baggage doesn't really help much lol

I've never been in a relationship on Valentine's day... dumped a week before, yes, but never had a girl on the day.

In high school, for Valentine's day you could buy a rose and have it delivered to someone in their classroom. I had three female friends who were bummed about being single my senior year, so I sent each of them a flower, with the name written as "Anonymous." Well, except for the girl who really liked Batman; that Valentine's day she got a rose from Batman.

The Batman part made me laugh, because I imagined Adam West delivering a rose to some chick in a high school classroom.

There's only one Valentine's Day in my history where I've been dating someone. This year will mark the second time. I'm looking forward to it; mainly just because of the social opportunity to be with the person I'm dating. I can certainly understand the frustrations towards the holiday; I've tried to ignore it in my past.

I love it. We make a big thing of it. we even send anonomous cards to my 12yr old. been doing that since she was tiny. We're off out for dinner and to see Phantom of the Opera this year. i think its lovely. If you dont like the commercialism of it then dont subscribe to that side of it. Theres so much nastiness in the world why would anyone be anti a day thats all about love?
