Spout off? Believe me I used great restraint and self editing before I posted, maybe you should too. If this isn't about your hat, why is it posted in a hat thread? If your going to troll with a thread entitled "USPS Sucks" then you'd better expect some blow back. As far as talking to somebody on the phone, try your local phonebook (remember those?) or better yet google "post office+your city" and you'll find a local phone number and be able to talk (in a civil manner I hope) with a postal supervisor. Don't be surprised if they hang up on you if you go off like you have here.
Yes. I said "spout off". That's what you did. Yes. I said USPS sucks and it does. This is the third incident in the last three months that I had with them. Two crushed packages with one crushed hat and now one seemingly lost. I'm not Trolling. I simply raised an issue that you disagree with. If you can't tolerate opposing viewpoints, nobody's twisting your arm to respond to my comments...You're also creating a Strawman. Where did I say that this was never about my hat? It damn sure is about my hat. I simply want to know where it is in transit. If it's delayed because of weather conditions, that's fine. As I said throughout this thread, I can understand that. I just simply want the tracking information. Why is that so hard for you to understand? TRACKING INFORMATION! If USPS can't give me tracking information and respond to my requests as promised, then as far as I'm concerned, its an inept system. I'm sorry if my opinion hurts your feelings but that's just too bad. The blowback doesn't bother me hot shot. I've handled a hell of a lot more than you can dish out.

Guys although very frustrating that you can't track a package that you've ordered there are people all over the world who won't eat today, tomorrow or the next day. I understand the frustration as I feel the same on occasion but try and view it as building suspense rather than a delay! After all these hats are luxuries that most people in the world can't afford so we should really count ourselves lucky to be in a position where we can.

The tracking system in the Post Office used to mean a scan when you dropped off the package and another when it was delivered. They are trying to transition to a scan at every stop. Some places still havent got that idea so sometimes scans can be spotty. But you say you've called the 1-800 number and got no reply. Have you contacted your local post office and talked to the post master? With the tracking number they can call the facility and try to find out whats going on. Not all post masters are responsive but most will and with some phone calls they might be able to find out for you

Thanks MCrider...Yes. I called my local Post Office when I couldn't get tracking information and also after I tried the 1 800 number. They were helpful as they could possibly be but they couldn't find anything out either. The package wasn't in their hands so there really wasn't much they could do since it was out in limbo somewhere. They said it looked like it never left the sorting facility from its point of origin. So I called the USPS sorting facility and they couldn't locate it either, only to say that it had been shipped but added they thought it odd that there were no further scannings somewhere in transit. That's when I became concerned. I can understand delays because of this weather, but just not having tracking information concerns me.

...which is why I donate and volunteer to help a number of families in my community. A worthwhile project for everyone who's willing.

I have sent and received quite a few hats and other items by USPS Priority Mail and have never had a problem. All these items have been within the USA so I'm sure that makes a big difference not having to transfer the package to another entity. Maybe I have just been lucky but I much prefer the USPS over private carriers. Especially the UPS. Not only are they more expensive but I have noticed that if you don't pay for an expedited service from UPS it looks like (from the tracking information) they intentionally leave the package for a few days in a location along the way. I can only assume they don't want to get it there too fast if you didn't pay for that service!

I also appreciate the hard work of the USPS letter carriers. My letter carrier sometimes doesn't get through with his route until well after dark. He is a retired Air Force veteran and a very nice guy. He has had this route for a very long time and not only knows me but probably most everybody else on this route personally. If I ever had a problem I would talk to him first rather than call the computer answered telephone number.

Bartender
Gents, over night this thread has headed in the direction that the Head Bartender closed it for in the first place.
I should have heeded his wise advice and let him leave it closed. There is a reason he is a head Bartender.
I will leave it open and leave it here.
Its my hope that this one will wither and die.

I would like to make a bit of a statement regarding USPS and how things can go with them. First I can understand anyone being frustrated when you buy something and would just relish it being at your mail box or front door with the overall great hopes of owning what you purchased. I would have to venture to say this is fueling the hurtful feelings of T Jones. I can sure understand his frustrations. I have had a few things take place (as well as my Husband) on not having something arrive. One time it was the "fill in" carrier that was behind it all. It took many phone calls and actually the Governor's Office to step in to address the complaint. The local Post Office then made some deep effort to pull aside the carrier and let them know, they would need to produce the box they had "misplaced" or face the fire! Be that as it may, overall, the USPS does handle a ton of mail everywhere everyday. They are not a machine. Humans. We all make errors. I know I do.

What was taken from our mail was a pair of never been worn vintage Western HH Boots. The "fill in" carrier already knew from past deliveries that we have nice shoes coming to us, as well as hats at the time. He knew in his own thinking, he could score some nice footwear. However, he was not someone that would have any interest in Western HH Boots. So he had elected to not even wear the boots. We had them returned to us, and that carrier was perhaps told behind closed doors, his Union could only protect him to some degree and that solved the issues. Now if something is not properly delivered and we call, they send someone to our front door and ask questions and have what ever carrier on our route that day, check out what they may or may not have done with the package. To date, they have tracked down a few and made sure we had them here within a hour or two.

I would guess perhaps that T. Jones is within good reason not pleased and venting his overall frustration regarding something he paid for and has a right to expect it to be found and delivered. I can sure feel what he is going through.

My best advice is to not lose your temper, yet rather seek alternative sources to complain to. As my Late Father in Law would say, don't poke a sleeping bear with a stick. Wait for the bear to wake up and offer it some honey. Then kill it! LOL! (Just kidding about the killing part) but you know what I mean. People are more prone to working with you on getting a resolve if you are not going "postal" on the post office.

I hope you will find the resolve and have what you paid for delivered soon. Also know, we here are one large group of (in general) caring kind people. How we state things reflect a great deal of how we are viewed by each other as well as the overall public that visit here to find out what we do. Please keep your temper.

Thanks so very much,
Cindy

Hi

I haven't had a PROBLEM with USPS, but their tracking at least comes close to the description "sucks". Their tracking is especially annoying in that they put "delivered" when articles are delivered to your local post office. I routinely don't see a status of delivered until a day or two after I receive a package. Never had anything broken or lost, just tracking...

Now, want to bash UPS? They wouldn't leave $100 cowboy boots at the apartment, and they wouldn't allow me to pick them up at the UPS Center. I had to get the seller to call so I could pick them up at the UPS Center 5 days later.

Wahoo.

Here is a summary of the cost and service options for a hat sized package shipped from Chico, CA to Columbus, OH.

By selecting standard post over priority mail, the shipper saves $4.77 in exchange for significantly longer delivery and less robust package tracking. If the shipper sent the parcel as media mail, the package would not fit the terms of service and is subject to being opened, delayed returned to the sender or held at the delivery post office for the additional postage due.

Have you checked with the shipper?

This is not universal. In my area the tracking never says "delivered" until it gets to my door. It does tell me when it reached the local branch, but is not marked delivered until I have it in hand.
