im curious if any tailors can make this at an affordable price.

I'm sure I could do a fair reproduction of this style for $350 (shipped) . I would also like to offer a 15% discount to anyone willing to be a guinea pig (though I would prefer of said guinea pig were a somewhere between a size 38 to 42 for ease of photographing the new suit)... making it $298. The final product may end up costing more (I won't know until we give it a try), but I'm happy to stick to this price for the guinea pig at least. Feel free to e-mail or PM me with any questions.

Kind regards,
Magnoli

The Gittes Cream suit

Did Jack the Lad's Chinatown cream suit that Indy is offering to make if he ever finds a guinea pig have Marc's jacket's serious pleating and the bi-swing action back? Or was it a more simple affair?

Here's an update.

A few months ago, I got the suit back from the Japanese reweavers in Santiago, Chile. They did a good job; I was satisfied. Then, I took the suit to a specialized drycleaner in L.A. (They clean vintage textiles for museums.) The cleaning ended up costing more than the reweaving! (Los Angeles ain't Santiago.) Sorry, I didn't take photos. I ended up selling the suit to a Lounger who PM'd and offered me a price I couldn't refuse. If he chooses to reveal himself here, you can ask him whether a pattern can be made of the suit.

I think it had pleats, but not inverted... if memory serves.

Kind regards,

Marc's glorious (Proposed) 30s style Tailoring Revolution

Funny how Marc's fantasy is probably in the mind of many Lounge Lizards as the problem of the "I'm a 44" - they are 38" - cuts us out of the vintage market.

Indy to his credit has had the guts and smarts to fill the gap. We see Style Mag pushing Marc's point - available retro for the punters.

Marc says we want authentic retro. He's right! Not some pastiche. Fletch raises the reality point - it's all about affordability.

All these integers relate to the point of Marc's post - we all want to wear authentic gear and spread the message but the reality is getting it produced for the right price - and there is an answer somewhere to our plight.

It's known as the New Yorker

Did anyone ever step up for a repro??

I did. It's the New Yorker at Magnoli Clothiers, http://www.magnoliclothiers.com/ I had the jacket sent back for a couple adjustments. When I get it I'll post pictures of the entire ensemble.:D I had a vest made and wore the vest and trousers to work and everyone said I looked like a G-Man from the Untouchables.lol Sunday, a man in the parking lot at a shopping center flagged me down as I was pulling out and wanted to know where I got the vest and pants.;)

Yes the pics... I want to see this repro.

I have vintage though am wearing it less and less as it's... well it's getting old and dangerous to wear around food since once it's gone it's gone. Fabric is still the primary issue with repro now that tailors are starting to get the picture on some fronts. I need to try a Magnoli.

Matt,

I think what you'd like are the tweeds. They have a really vintage look and feel. You can get the trousers half-lined if you're sensitive to the "itchiness" of tweed. There is also a 14oz herringbone that you might like... one of these days we'll discuss the details. ;)

Kind regards,
Indy
