And then the most recognizably ironic style are the all too common idiots wearing their pants below their backside. The style which of course had its origin in prison where inmates are not allowed to have belts. Some correctional institutions have gone back to the traditional prison stripes. Unfortunately I suspect that if the practice became more widespread that it would end up becoming the new hip hop style.

Fortunately, that style is becoming outdated amongst the masses around here. Most kids tend to mock it. Unfortunately, our skaters and emo kids are trying to bring back a version of it with their skinny/girl jeans. They don't/can't sag nearly as low but are able to show more than enough. Dress code enforcement takes care of the problem but something new always shows up to take the place of the offending style.

I thought about this thread today when a coworker told me that her friend calls everything made before 1985 "40s music". Beatles? Yeah, '40s music. Black Sabbath? '40s music. And don't get me started on that darned '40s disco...:p

My husband calls everything before WW2 "1812" lol Lovingly, of course ;)

When I was in junior high, there was some dope who would wear glassless frames. When one teacher questioned him about it, he answered: "These are prescription." Geez, that stupidity is back again after all these years?!

Kids of junior high-age have to be given a little leeway when it comes to things like this. Hormones at that age make the brain a bit loopy. If that was the worst thing my kids did at that age, I'd be happy.

I think this web site was mentioned in another hipster thread www.diehipster.com. It's become one of my favorite sites for the absurdity of the mainly Brooklyn hipster.
Come on. This is self righteous and silly:

The old saying is that losing builds character, and that's absolutely true. The only way one can truly develop empathy is to experience failure and defeat and frustration themselves. There is nothing that taught me more about the reality of life than surviving thru 1967, 1972, 1974, 1975, 1978, and 1986 as a Red Sox fan.

As a Minnesota Vikings fan since 1970, I know that pain... lol
