I'm sorry Mr. Bern, but every TV show has a theme song. Even though the song may not be very pronounced, it is there. A theme song doesn't nessicarily have to be in the begining of a show. It can be in transitions, altered for different dramatic effectsm and even sub in when the director and producers are too cheap to buy a song license.

Most of you are probably too young to remember, but one of the great theme songs was from a long forgotten show called “The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis”. The great jazz sound reflected the "beatnick" era. It was the show that made Bob Denver a Star. Click the link and scroll all the way down to play the theme.
Regards,
Forrestal

Dobie

Just call me Maynerd G. Krebs.lol
Put a little jazz on, toss in some Kerouac, add Rodin's famous
statue, a bit of philosophy, and some hack script scribbling for
a memorable recipe. There was more originality in "DG" than
that show ever got credit for.

sorry Jack

but you gotta love this one

Greatest American Hero (1981)

Look at what's happened to me,
I can't believe it myself.
Suddenly I'm up on top of the world,
It should've been somebody else.

Believe it or not,
I'm walking on air.
I never thought I could feel so free eee eee.
Flying away on a wing and a prayer.
Who could it be?
Believe it or not it's just me.

It's like a light of a new day,
It came from out of the blue.
Breaking me out of the spell I was in,
Making all of my wishes come true ue ue.

Believe it or not,
I'm walking on air.
I never thought I could feel so free eee eee.
Flying away on a wing and a prayer.
Who could it be?
Believe it or not it's just me.

Read an article some years ago, New York Times? Wall Street Journal? that tv theme songs are disappearing, and Everybody Loves Raymond was cited, as was Seinfeld. Coupla notes does not a theme song make, the tv producer stressed. I don't have cable so I'm mad Darcy's Wild Life moved there. Like Fresh Prince of Bel Air, it's an explanatory theme song.
Clutch Cargo
Bewitched
Here Come the Brides
The Smith Family
Banana Splits
Lance Link Secret Chimp
George of the Jungle
That Girl
NCIS
Without a Trace
As Time Goes By
Mama's Family
The Unit
and then there's Maude

Lyrics to the song 'Suicide is Painless'

Through early morning fog I see

visions of the things to be

the pains that are withheld for me

I realize and I can see...

[REFRAIN]:

that suicide is painless

It brings on many changes

and I can take or leave it if I please.

I try to find a way to make

all our little joys relate

without that ever-present hate

but now I know that it's too late, and...

[REFRAIN]

The game of life is hard to play

I'm gonna lose it anyway

The losing card I'll someday lay

so this is all I have to say.

[REFRAIN]

The only way to win is cheat

And lay it down before I'm beat

and to another give my seat

for that's the only painless feat.

[REFRAIN]

The sword of time will pierce our skins

It doesn't hurt when it begins

But as it works its way on in

The pain grows stronger...watch it grin, but...

[REFRAIN]

A brave man once requested me

to answer questions that are key

is it to be or not to be

and I replied 'oh why ask me?'

[REFRAIN]

'Cause suicide is painless

it brings on many changes

and I can take or leave it if I please.

...and you can do the same thing if you please.

You can't read the news on any given day without hearing this:

A bottlenose dolphin captured last month off western Japan has an extra set of fins, providing further evidence that ocean-dwelling mammals once had four legs and lived on land, Japanese researchers said Sunday.

For years 'lost' tapes recording data from the Apollo 11 Moon landing have been stored underneath the seats of Australian physics students. A recent search has uncovered them. They were nearly thrown out with the rubbish. But a last minute search instead has scientists in Western Australia dusting off several boxes of 'lost' NASA tapes which record surface conditions on the Moon just after Neil Armstrong stepped into space history on 21 July 1969.

A UK team has been given permission to carry out what would be the world's first full face transplant. Peter Butler at London's Royal Free Hospital said he was "delighted" to get the go-ahead from an NHS ethics board for an operation "within months".

I'm a sucker for instrumental themes

Miami Vice (perfect 80's synth)
NYPD Blue (percussion percussion percussion)
Rockford Files (Moog-y!)
Wild Wild West (epic)
The Prisoner (as strange and unique as the show)

In the land of no longer with us, but not long gone, is Firefly. I liked that song.

That's a great song, penned by Joss Whedon, the show's writer and director if I recall right. I've got the series on DVD; man, it's a great show!
