Powder room's theme...

Gene Krupa's "Ball of Fire" lol

Mmmmm, a theme song for the Lounge? Goodman's "All Cat's Join In" is a good one! There's a rare Artie Shaw tune called "Hold your Hat" that I like! I wish I could post a link to a site that has it... but, check out this song by Artie, it's called "Man From Mars" and boy, does it do it for me!!!

Speaking of Artie Shaw: I saw Ben Affleck last night in Hollywoodland -- I'm convinced that he would be a terrific onscreen Artie Shaw.

.

Ben Affleck as Shaw? Really??? Hmmmmm.... not crazy about that guy... but, I guess I'll have to watch the movie and see what you mean.

Once you see Hollywoodland, you'll know what I mean. Yes, it's a plodding film with more or less listless characters (except for Bob Hoskins' portrayal of a studio exec). But Affleck has something in him that brings Artie Shaw to mind. A sense of dissatisfaction, I guess.

MP3: "Sunny Side of the Street" - Tommy Dorsey

Grab your coat, Don't forget your hat
But leave your worries, leave them on the doorstep,
Life's sweet... just direct your feet,
To the sunny, sunny side of the street

Hop-bop-a-doodle-zat, pitter-pat
You know that happy tune is my step,
Life's all-reet, if you dig that beat
On the sunny, sunny side of the street

Used to walk in the shade, with my blues on parade
What a drag old man, gettin' stuck in the shade
Get hip: Don't be afraid
Move it on over, feel yourself in the clover

If I never have a cent, I'll be rich as Rockefeller
Gold dust 'round my feet, on the sunny side of the street

Ted Lewis and his Orchestra -- Wear A Hat With A Silver Lining (1938)

Come on and wear a hat
A hat with a silver lining
When there's a dark cloud upon your mind
When those clouds are near
Take my advice, don't ever fear
Go on, just put on a hat
And they'll disappear
And when you're blue and your heart is pining
Why, you just look up and leave your cares way behind
Wear a hat with a silver lining
When there's a dark cloud upon your mind

Maybe, "Memories are made of this", by Deano of course.

Different threads could have their own, say "Zoot suit riot" for the suits thread. I do like "You can leave your hat on" for the hat thread

IF we were assembling a playlist of appropriate music for the Fedora Lounge (say, to play in the background while site-browsing), my nominations are...

General Theme:

"Let's Dance" (performed by the man himself, Mr. Benny Goodman, the King of Swing). Or...

"Sing, Sing, Sing".

- Puttin' on the Ritz (reflecting how sharply some people here can really dress) // Theme for "Accoutraments"
- Bran' New Suit (reflecting fine clothing) // Theme for "Suits".
- Masculine Women & Feminine Men // Theme for "Powder Room".
- Anything Goes // Theme for "Observation Bar".
- Hooray for Hollywood // Theme for "The Moving Picture" Alternatively, the 1929 song: "If I Had a Talking Picture of You".
- Let's Misbehave // Theme for "The Connasieur".
- Button Up Your Overcoat // "Outerwear".
- We'll Meet Again // "WWII" (Alternatively "In the Moood")
- Night and Day // "Radio" (We all listen to OTR and vintage jazz all the time here...right?)
- On a Steamer Coming Over // "The Steamer Trunk".
- Hop, Skip // "The Golden Era". Or maybe the iconic song of the '20s - "The Charleston".

'As Time Goes By'

[This day and age we're living in
Gives cause for apprehension
With speed and new invention
And things like fourth dimension.
Yet we get a trifle weary
With Mr. Einstein's theory.
So we must get down to earth at times
Relax relieve the tension

And no matter what the progress
Or what may yet be proved
The simple facts of life are such
They cannot be removed.]

You must remember this
A kiss is just a kiss, a sigh is just a sigh.
The fundamental things apply
As time goes by.

And when two lovers woo
They still say, "I love you."
On that you can rely
No matter what the future brings
As time goes by.

Moonlight and love songs
Never out of date.
Hearts full of passion
Jealousy and hate.
Woman needs man
And man must have his mate
That no one can deny.

It's still the same old story
A fight for love and glory
A case of do or die.
The world will always welcome lovers
As time goes by.

Oh yes, the world will always welcome lovers
As time goes by.
