I've cut the brim on my Akubra Fed to 2 5/8 inches to get a proper '30's shape rather than the Indy look but I'm having great difficulty getting the brim shape right, particularly the back curl. I'm using steam and fingers but can't get much of a curl into it.
WHAT DO I DO ???!!!

I have several Akubra federations, if you are trying to achieve more curl to the back than what it came with and steam isn't working, then you will probably have to add some felt stiffner to it to make it hold the curl. You can get it at most western stores. If that doesn't work about all you can do is send it to a hatter and let them reflange the brim to a sharper curl.

Elbow grease..

..and time? :)
You seem to be on the right track with the steam and shaping. I also suggest when you need to hold your hat (indoors, etc.) hold it by the brim and 'work' it a bit. I have a Federation Deluxe and the best results I have ever encountered were after getting soaked in a rainstorm! The hat works very easily and holds its shape.
Keep fedoralover's words in mind too if all else fails.
Good luck.
