Hey Y'all, new to the lounge here.

I picked this guy up on ebay for cheap. I wanted an older hat I could start practicing shaping on and wear every day.

Im having a difficult time coming up with a date for this hat. I cannot find a similar box anywhere, however I do have the original purchase receipt so price should be a good indication.

The first picture is the hat as is when it arrived at my door. Please don't hate to much on my crown job!

Thanks! I knew it was post war due to the plastic lining, but the box was really throwing me off. And I'm not old enough to know when a decent hat cost 17$. hehe

Any idea on the felt quality from that time period? Being a 3x in that era, what would that be? It is way softer than my newer 6x stetson.

Better than average felt but not super premium(up to $100) Just before they started adding more Shellac and making the stiff helmets that took over through today. Softer and more comfortable than available now.
