Definitely a difference, but just as most people today think any long coat is a trench coat, they also think of a fedora only as Indy's hat. They likewise couldn't tell a porkpie from a homburg. The gentlemen's lid has fallen on hard times.

I don't know why people are so dogmatic on the interweb, but then they often are in real life too. I think the most important features of a trenchcoat are double-breasted buttoning and a belt, with shoulder straps and D-rings optional. I know the history of these coats quite well and I'm not interested in arguing. I think that H&M coat looks the stuff and I'd be happy to wear it.

Dogmatic? Could be...

But in my opinion:
Without shoulder-straps, it's just not the officer's greatcoat and finally it's not a trenchcoat.

About belts and the funny D-rings, I think, this can be discussed!

Looking on Hugo Boss "Daran"-coat, stonegrey. :peace:

^ You're exactly right, the length is appropriate for the times, as is the overall fit. In the late 80s or early 90s a floor-sweeping length and oversized shoulders would be appropriate. Context, historical and social, is something internet denizens -- most of whom seem to have literally been born yesterday -- forget, ignore, or never knew in the first place. I should say that I'm not aiming that at anyone in particular, but at the internet generally; having been an active member of several clothing forums, it's something I've observed.

Yes, indeed; for many internet denizens the years from (say) 1945 to 1970 seem to have disappeared into an all-purpose past time-warp.

I tell you, today, I'm seeing once more, that it's absolutely correct, to got both, classic simple raincoats AND trenchcoats. These days, with this bad cold and moist wind, I'm really happy, to have the high popped collars on my trenchcoats, which got up, over my chin until mouth-level. ;)

And if someday that will not be enough, there's the stormflap standing by, parked on the back.

Hi guys!
My Traditional Rainwear trench is just arrived after 35 days from the order.
The fabric's quality isn't the best for something like 520 euros.
Same for the stitching especially on the buttons.
Fortunately mine has no issues on the lining.

The worst thing is the comunication...in a polite expression...they ' re not professional.

After a quick look , the Burberry is on other level.

Thanks for information!!

Now, I see again, that my storebrand-trenchcoats, costing 129 Euro on sale (normal 199 Euro) seem to be the best value for money on authentic trenchcoats.

Are the TRW's made of cotton-Gabardine/impregnated cotton??
