Have you ever spent hours in a fruitless search looking for the appropriate shoes/coat/hat just to complete an outfit? My missus goes on E-Bay and cracks it in ten minutes. She does it time and time again. Still why should I complain, this is not bad for seventy quid.

^ congrats GHT. Few years ago I was on a Burberry kick and managed to snag give (three trenches, two raincoats) in great condition in my size for about what you paid for that one. Sometimes you have to wait months or even years to find what you want, or sometimes you login one day and "bam" there it is, the first listing you look at.

Sometimes, just sometimes you can, that should read, my wife can, just find it. I had been on the hunt for a sleeveless woolen in an Argyle pattern. By woolen I mean a waistcoat/vest kind of style, like this:

We had gone to a weekend vintage festival, Tina just walked into one of the sales stalls and took this down from the rack. It's the very thing that I had been looking for, what's more it's been knitted in Shetland wool, perfect.
"How much?" she asked the vendor, ignoring the £25 price tag. Knowing he was going to have to haggle he said: "Give me £22 and it's your's." My cheeky missus replied: "You did say twenty quid, didn't you?" Offering a crisp twenty pound note. "Would I argue with a lady?" He said with a smile. The deal was done.

Just found this thread. Here's my 'new to me' tweed Tenchcoat, ( if it's tweed can it really be called a trenchcoat?

The cloth means overcoat but it has so many features of a trench coat that it's ultimately a hybrid and could fit in either/both categories. The pendants on other forums can fuss about that stuff. Like you said, it's a beautiful coat, and Chaz is lucky to own it (I hope it fits well!).

I think overall it fits well, not as well as on the mannequin perhaps, but not to poorly. Here are some quick snaps after my weekly trip to the local record shop pardon the mirror distortion.

Got it off of an etsy seller in England and went back and forth 3 times with their measurements and a measuring tape. Then had my wife take my measurements to make sure.
I had been looking for a coat for about 2 weeks and had short listed 6 (down from 12) when I saw this one come up and instantly contacted the seller. Love at first sight

Hello all! I hope this will be adequate enough for my first post here.

Here is my Aquascutum (period unknown, maybe 50s or 60s?) trench coat worn in two fashions.
I originally bought it, for 70 euros, to be a part of my WW1 British officer's impression, and then wore it outside reenactment as well, which was the objective.

^ What a delight to see an old Aquascutum trench coat. With regard to the date, that's hard to say, since Aqua sold that basic design for decades, into the 1990s for sure (and maybe later). The big meaty buckles, the cloth and stitching, and the comparatively oversized collar suggest 1960s or especially 1970s to my eye but I'm speculating. Enjoy wearing!

By the third round of measurements the seller was probably ready to punch you, but whatever, they got a sale and you got a great fitting coat, so all's well that ends well!

That is a truly magnificent coat. You make me feel seriously old, I was just reminiscing the John Collier advert. They used the expression: "John Collier, the window to watch."

As for it's definition Trench coat fabrics include waterproof heavy-duty cotton material, twill weaves (including gabardine), leather or poplin fabric and usually have an insulated lining and raglan sleeves.

Sadly, leather Trenchcoats will forever be tarnished.

The knowledge here is amazing! Many thanks. I was looking for a 'conservative' cut, really close to the WW1 one, even if original WW1 trench coats are very scarce even when just looking for pictures. I mainly went off catalogues. I love Aquascutum, it's a shame they're virtually unknown compared to Burberry.

You've posted that coat before I think and it's always impressed me as an excellent old-school look! nice to see such large-size, clear photos. Question about the metal D-rings that hang from the bottom of the front and back yokes--did you sew them up? I thought they would hang down.
