Can any hat guys help?
Would like info re duplicating or replicating Bogie's fedora in Treasure of Sierra Madre.
Style and aging seems timeless.
Many thanks in advance.

That one is easy. Get a Stetson from the 1940s and run over it a few times with your car. You can even skid on it to get the holes. :p
I was being facitious. DO NOT run it over or skid on it. Killing a perfectly good hat is not right. I am sure you could find a hat like that on E%$# for a reasonable price. $5 at the most. :p

Regards to all,

I suppose you could get a hatmaker to "age" it the way they do those cowboy hats, making it look like you rode the range for 10 years and it got all grizzled and sweat-stained.

But, who would want to pay all that money to have a new hat that looks battered?

I think James has the best suggestion: keep looking on auction sites to see if you can find a hat that has aged naturally.

I find some bad looking hats some times in Antique shops. And, they are always a bargan.

There was a guy at a gun show once that had a box full of old felt hats. I found some good original fedoras from the 40's that could be cleaned up, and some that would make a great beater like you're looking for. I believe that the guy was selling them to reenactors. But, you should check out more then just ebay if you want to get out and dig. I like that more some times my self.

Not every thing makes it on ebay!

Root.

The "Sierra Madre" hat was characterized by a pretty narrow brim, and narrow brim hats are easier to find than wide brim ones. After getting one, my suggestion would be to wear it mowing the lawn in the hot sun for a year, then run over it with the mower.
