Maybe so, but I kind of cheer on those who dress up without being so perfect and so dressy. I think men ought not to be too perfect in dress, otherwise it's off-putting. Like when men have pocket squares in their suit coat. It's fine for them, but I wouldn't do it.

I think that his jacket's flat-pressed lapels look studied and insipid. Rolled lapels, on the other hand, would look both dressy and unstudied. A narrow tightrope to walk, but rolled lapels succeed at it, as do rolled handkerchief points.

Very nice hat closet and some nice knowledge of his way of wearing hats.

I'm a bit envious of the closet, however... Mine are simply hanging on the wall by our front door... :/

Brim down in back was very common in the '20s and '30s.

Mr. Talese dresses as if he were his own father: a NYC Italian tailor.
Actually, his father's shop was in Ocean City, N J. His mother was the bread winner in the family as she operated a very successful couture dress shop that catered to the elite.

the jacket's lapels are just windless sails. Nobody's perfect.
His lapels seem to vary from suit to suit (I recall him admitting to have a couple hundred) from classic to a bit 'out there'.

I`m surprised he flips the brim at the back of the hat down. I guess thats his way to make it less formal, but as I say, with a great suit, it does not match imho...
I usually wear the back down (as did my father). I never knew it was considered less formal.[huh]

He seems to be partial to wearing the otherwise rather uncommon Tautz lapel. Here's another pic of him wearing a suit (same one or not...) with the same lapel style.

He looks like a guy that has pretty well settled on what styles he likes to wear.

His hats, or the ones I can see, seem to be of the same style (shape) so he probably has quite a number of suits that also are of the same cut and style.

He may prefer those lapels because the long tapered up lapel would make him appear taller.
