I have a lot of catching up to do, which may still take me a few days, but congrats on the new addition, David! Stunning trio.
Are all your Tumwaters kind of mottled as they appear in the family photo? I just adore that quality.

Simply love it. It looks very 1920's to my eye, what with the brim styling and the lack of dents. If I ever get a hat from Tony, it'll probably be very similar. -M

Thanks Jeff. The hats are not really mottled, but the felt seems to reflect the light differently in various areas. I wonder if that is a result of the way Tony pounces the felt. It isn't as noticeable on the hats as on the photos - might be a result of downsizing the images from over 4,000 pixels to 660 to post on the site.

This one arrived from Tony about a month ago, but I haven't gotten around to posting pics until today.

Very nice indeed, Herzen. Great style and I love what Tony has done with the ribbon.

And a noggin shot (forgive the attire; I was in Autumn cleaning mode today):

Do you generally wear your brims turned up? Or is there something specific about this hat that favors the up-all-around instead of snapped-down look?

I love that color scheme although with my "gray" beard (it's getting closer to white, actually) it wouldn't work as well on me as on yourself.

About the image-resizing thing...I've noticed that photos of hats with a velour finish or really with any sort of nap to the finish at all really change appearance as you mess with the photo resolution. Do the Tumwater hats have a little longer grain to the finish than some others?

Wow, Herzen-- Gorgeous hat! I really dig that almost western flange where it's upturned all the way around, but still maintains the front dip. very cool. nice colors, too.

Hard to believe this hat

and this one

issued forth from the same shop in the same month. Miles of pinch or no pinch at all? Wide ribbon or skinny ribbon? And don't get me started on the different bows! That's why they call them "Custom".

Actually, I do often wear my hats brim-up. In fact, I think all of my hats go brim-up at least part of the time and a few (this one included) are always brim-up.

I appreciate the compliments on the brim! I had to stretch the hat a little when it arrived, which threw the brim out of whack. I re-flanged it myself and spent a few days tinkering with it to get it just the way I wanted it. I'm pretty pleased with how it came out.

Just saw this . Let me add my compliments to your new hat.. So many things that are different from anything that i have and it certainly wouldn't look good on me... BUT on you it is the perfect idea of a beautiful hat....

Again My compliments to you and the artist who made that hat for you.....

I hope to add him to my list of wants in the future....

Good observation, Brent. I'd say that the grain (if that's the correct word) is indeed a little longer on the hats I have from Tony. I notice it, for example, if I put my VS and my Tumwater Silverbellys side by side. The VS is smoother, the Tumwater feels more like suede. I wouldn't say one is better than the other, just different.

Same here, OG. I would not feel able to wear Herzen's hat the way it is now, even though it is a beautiful example and suits Herzen perfectly.

Give me 5 minutes with it though, I'd have it creased my style, the brim flipped and I'd be a happy man :D:D

My first-ever custom hat, a TonyB creation from the Tumwater Hat Company!

Here are some comparisons with my two-year-old Borsalino Alessandria in taupe.

P.S. I really should have been patient enough to brush off the few little flecks of lint that accumulated during shipment from Washington State to South Carolina. These photos are from literally five minutes after the hat came out the box.

Thanks, Eric.

I ended up letting Tony "surprise" me with the ribbon treatment. The width and color I picked from among several options he showed me. But after going back and forth for the whole time the hat was being made I had no idea what kind of bow I wanted. So I told him to do whatever he thought a fairly plain, brown hat needed to fancy it up just a bit. Now that I see the triple bow on there I can't imagine why I didn't say that in the first place! Perfect, just a bit fancier than normal for me which is a good thing.

Yay! Congratulations on the new hat, Brent. I really like the ribbon colour, goes great with the rich chocolate of the felt.

Looks good on you as well. Another winner from Tony!
