Being a huge Cowboys and Landry fan, I considered bidding. If it had been one of his older felts with grosgrain ribbons, my credit card would be bulging now....and I would have worn it.

Maybe not by today's standards, but, considering he was born in 1924, for his generation.

So peoples heads got bigger? My dad was born in 1928 and he is size 7 1/2 and I am 7 3/8. Not sure what happened in my case. :)

Could it be the small size vintage hats are in less demand so there are more on the market? Also more dead stock survivors?

For about $1,980 less I got this Dobbs Golden Coach hat from the Tom Landry collection. I've never seen another.

I think, as a whole, people tend to be proportionately larger now than they were, say, 100 years ago.

The average over the population has gotten bigger. My father was a 7 1/2, my older brother is a 7 3/8 while my son & I are 7 5/8. I'm the shortest of the 4 at now 5' 9.5", used to be 5' 10"! My brother is tallest at 6' 2". My maternal grandfather, who started this whole hat thing for me, was a 7 3/8 & he was about 6' 1".

I am 5-7 and wear a 7 3/8. My dad is the same height born in 1928 and is a 7 1/2. My brother who 5 years older than me and about the same height is 7 5/8 +. Also height and hat / head size do not always go together.
