Ok folks. Here is the time machine. You have one chance to go back in time and attend ONE event in history. It can be interactive or passive.A fly on the wall or a guest at dinner.
The rules: The event must be/have taken place between 1800 and 1945.
Location:anywhere
And explain why that event or place means so much to you

I will start: Granted it isn't from the Golden or Victorian age,but i would want to be interacting at the gathering of Franz Liszt,Chopin,George Sand and many of the worlds pianists in a benefit concert in 1835.So many titans of piano and music in one place at one time playing and performing great music.Considering what these famous musicians have done for the world and it's music,i would be delighted to be there.

Could I go back to The Titanic and steer a course south of that iceberg? :)
The interaction cannot change the course of history(or of the Titanic).
Splendid thought though.

Well then, I would go back and hang with Leonardo Davinci for a while. Learn his techniques. But I would probably inadvertantly give him some ideas over lunch. [huh] Any interaction could change the course of history.

Sarajevo, 28th of June, 1914. The assasination of Archduke Franz-Ferdinand of Austria, the event that, in my mind, caused the entire 20th century to have been as bloody as it was.

I would like to observe many, many events during WW 2. Mostly I'd like to "ride along" with several aces during epic air battles.:)

I want to see the worcester diner factory in operation.

I've seen it, but it's been closed since around 1960, so not much to see anymore.

Interesting comment, though tenuous. The Balkan proscenium enflames
a continent in war; however, Versailles failed to secure Teutonic passion,
while Modernity fell prostrate before competing beliefs: Communism,
National Socialism, and Imperialism. To ascribe the butchery to a single
bullet, seems to miss the mark.

Well, if we're not allowed to change history, then I would travel to the early twentieth century to see Andres Segovia perform in concert.

Dubious because just being there would change history. But for the fun of it lets assume it can't. I would like to be one of the nurses that Florence Nightingale took out to the Crimea. To be there and see the effect she and her team had, to make changes that would affect the future.

I would also like to be right where I grew up from 1900 to 1945. It's my immediate history and I have such a strong desire to know what this period was like it just aches. Politics, war, social deprivation, the class system, fashion, the atomic era, the whole thing.

More personal

I'd like to go back to 1943 and meet my Dad as a 17-year-old fresh out of the Army. He got booted out for being underage, and in July '43, two months after he turned 18, he enlisted in the Air Force. I've heard some wild stories about his exploits and would love to meet him as a dynamic youth full of energy, with his whole life ahead of him. And I'd get to see the Sydney of the 1940's that he knew so well.

Since Twitch allready covers the aces and the flying in WWII, I think I will go back to 1800.
I would like to follow Napoleon in Italy, at Austerlitz, Jena and Wagram. See how he did it. And offcourse at Waterloo. To see for myself if it could have turned out differently.
